BlockUpdater – Fix Invisible Pipes & Phantom Blocks

What does it do?
BlockUpdater is a simple client-side utility for Forge 1.16.5 that forces block neighbor updates around the player. It was originally made to solve a common visual bug with pipes, cables, and conduits (e.g., from tech mods like Thermal, Mekanism, Pipez, etc.) where connections become invisible or stop rendering correctly – even though they are still working behind the scenes.

When should you use it?

Pipes or cables are there (items flow, power transfers), but you can’t see the connections.

You walk into an area and get “rubber-banded” back as if hitting a phantom block.

Blocks around you behave weirdly after world reload or teleportation.

How it works

Press F7 to scan a 5‑block radius around you  and queue all non‑air blocks.

The mod then updates neighbor connections in batches (200 blocks every 0.5 seconds) to avoid lag.

A progress bar in chat shows: percentage, time left, and processed/total blocks.

Key info

Client‑side only – works on any server (no server installation needed).

Safe to use – only triggers standard block neighbour updates.

Hotkeys:

F7 – start update

F8 – open GUI for config radius

Why this mod exists
Many tech mods rely on block neighbour updates to recalculate connection models. If that update never happens (due to world loading order, teleportation, or other quirks), pipes become invisible but remain functional. BlockUpdater manually forces those updates – instantly fixing the visuals.
