BuildCraft Refabricated

The classic BuildCraft automation experience, rebuilt for Fabric on Minecraft.

A row of various industrial machines and blocks from the BuildCraft mod placed side-by-side in a Minecraft world

BuildCraft Refabricated is an unofficial Fabric port of BuildCraft, one of the mods that defined Minecraft automation. Mine with quarries, pump and refine oil, power everything with engines, move resources through smart pipes, and automate it all with programmable gates. The full BuildCraft toolkit, faithful to the 8.0.x era, rebuilt for modern Fabric.

If you ever piped items across your base, watched a quarry chew through stone, or wired up gates to run a factory on its own, this is that experience. And now it plugs straight into the rest of your Fabric modpack.

Factory & Mining: automate the world

Mining and processing in BuildCraft is completely hands-off. Mark out areas, supply power, and let the machines do the heavy lifting:

  • Quarry: strip mines an entire marked region down to bedrock, piping every block of loot straight into your storage. Set it, power it, walk away.
  • Mining Well: drills a clean shaft straight down, perfect for targeted vertical mining.
  • Pump: drains lakes, lava pools, and oil deposits into your fluid network.
  • Flood Gate: the exact opposite of a pump—smoothly fills ravines or custom tanks with any fluid.
  • Tanks: stackable, massive multiblock fluid storage for your oil and fuel reserves.
  • Auto Workbench: supply ingredients via pipes to automate standard crafting recipes.
  • Chute: precisely drops piped items into the world.

Oil & Energy: a full economy

BuildCraft features a complete energy loop running on its iconic unit, Minecraft Joules (MJ):

  • Oil & Springs: crude oil pools generate across the world, waiting to be tapped.
  • Distiller / Refinery: refine crude oil into a three-tier fuel chain. Each tier burns hotter and longer.
  • Engines:
    • Redstone Engine: a cheap early-game kickstart for pumping and light work.
    • Stone & Iron Engines: mid-tier power that scales with fuel quality, requiring water cooling to prevent overheating.
    • Combustion Engine: massive output power for your biggest machines.
    • Creative & FE Engines: for testing and cross-tech pack setups.

Pipes & Logistics: the transport network

Build sprawling logistics networks that sort, route, and deliver resources with zero hoppers:

  • Wooden pipes extract from inventories; Cobblestone, Stone, and Quartz pipes carry items along at varying speeds.
  • Iron pipes force items in a single direction; Diamond pipes sort items by type into different outputs.
  • Emerald pipes smart-extract with filters; Lapis / Daizuli pipes route items by painted colour.
  • Obsidian pipes act as vacuums, sucking up dropped items from the world.
  • Sandstone pipes only connect to other pipes, neatly ignoring nearby inventories.
  • Void pipes safely delete excess items, fluids, or energy.
  • Striped pipes interact with the world, placing blocks or using items as if they were a player.
  • Fluid & Kinesis pipes: carry liquids and MJ power across your base to distant machines.

Gates, Wires & Triggers: program your factory

This is where BuildCraft becomes a living, breathing factory:

  • Gates read the world: "is this tank full?", "is this engine too hot?", "is this chest empty?" They fire actions in response.
  • Redstone wires link gates together into reactive, self-regulating networks.
  • Turn machines on and off exactly when needed. No command blocks, no complex scripting—just satisfying, intuitive in-world logic.

Builders: construction at scale

Move, copy, and construct buildings using MJ:

  • Architect Table: scans any structure in the world into a reusable blueprint.
  • Builder: reconstructs your blueprints anywhere, provided you supply the materials.
  • Filler: clears, flattens, or fills entire marked regions on command.
  • Blueprint Library: store, manage, and share your favourite blueprints across different worlds.

Robotics: your automated drone fleet

Take automation to the skies with programmable flying robots to handle dynamic tasks pipes can't reach:

  • Docking Station: the home base and charging port for your robots.
  • Zone Planner & Map Location: map out exact 3D working areas for your fleet.
  • Robots: deploy specialized drones like the Lumberjack, Miner, Planter, Picker, and Transporter to automatically manage tree farms, gather drops, and move resources dynamically around your base.

Silicon: advanced crafting

  • Assembly Table & Integration Table: use laser beams to craft gates, chipsets, and advanced pipe wires.
  • Advanced Crafting Table: uses laser power to instantly craft complex standard recipes.
  • Facades and Lenses: hide your pipes behind blocks or add functional beam control to your networks.

Quality of life tools

  • Paintbrush: colour-code pipes and blocks for tidy, readable factories.
  • Landmarks, Path Markers & Volume Boxes: precisely define working areas for quarries, fillers, and builders.
  • List tool: configure filters quickly and uniformly across your network.

Plays well with your other mods

BuildCraft Refabricated is a team player, not a walled-off tech island:

  • Works with your other mods out of the box — pipes and machines pull items and fluids in and out of other mods' chests, drawers, tanks, and machines automatically. Snap a BuildCraft pipe onto them and it just connects, no add-ons needed.
  • Bridges to Team Reborn Energy — running an "E"-based tech pack? When Team Reborn Energy is installed, BuildCraft plugs right in: dedicated RF pipes carry that power across your base, and special converter blocks translate it into BuildCraft's own energy and back.
  • Handles any mod's fluids — other mods' liquids pump, pipe, and store through BuildCraft just like vanilla water or lava. The Distiller can refine any fluid it has a recipe for.
  • Full JEI and REI integration — every BuildCraft recipe shows up right alongside the rest of your pack, so it's easy to look up and craft.

Whether your pack leans on storage drawers, modded tanks, energy generators, or other logistics systems, BuildCraft slots in as the connective tissue that ties them all together.
