Description

Rick and Morty: Butter Bot

Butter Bot has been upgraded. It can do considerably more than pass butter now.

gameplayprv

Rick and Morty: Butter Bot adds an autonomous robotic worker capable of completing complex jobs without constant player supervision.

Tell Butter Bot what you need, and it works out how to get it. It can search for ores, dig its own tunnels, mine resources, collect drops, craft items using materials stored in your chests and deliver everything directly to you.

There is no language model, cloud connection or external service behind it. Butter Bot runs through a local priority-based behaviour system similar to the one used by vanilla Minecraft mobs.

Every decision happens:

  • Locally
  • Offline
  • Instantly
  • Entirely on the server

Need something more advanced? Write your own programs for Butter Bot using Lua.

Features

  • Autonomous resource mining
  • Intelligent tunnelling
  • Automatic item collection
  • Chest scanning and crafting
  • Player ownership system
  • Rechargeable battery system
  • Multiple Butter Bot management
  • Persistent jobs after server restarts
  • Sandboxed Lua programming
  • No cloud services or external AI required

Meet Butter Bot

Craft a CPU, use it to create a Butter Bot and a Bot Base, then place both in the world.

Right-click Butter Bot to claim it.

Once claimed, it:

  • Becomes linked to your player
  • Receives a unique name such as Butter Bot-3F2A
  • Displays its name and remaining power above its head
  • Refuses commands from other players

Right-click the Bot Base to open the control panel.

From there, you can:

  • Select which Butter Bot you are controlling
  • Insert batteries
  • Assign jobs
  • Manage ownership
  • Write and run Lua programs

How Butter Bot Thinks

Every tick, Butter Bot checks all available behaviours and runs the one with the highest current priority.

For example:

  • Backpack full while mining? It returns to you.
  • Finished the job while carrying resources? It delivers them.
  • Found the requested ore while tunnelling? It immediately starts mining.
  • Running a Lua program? The program overrides normal behaviour.
Priority Behaviour
95 Run Lua program
90 Return to owner when backpack is full
80 Return to owner when the job is complete
60 Mine the current target block
55 Tunnel, craft or walk to the Bot Base
20 Expand the search when nothing is nearby

Mining

Choose a resource and enter the amount you need.

Butter Bot scans up to 20 blocks around itself. When no matching resource is nearby, it behaves like a real player:

  1. Determines the best mining depth.
  2. Digs a staircase toward that level.
  3. Begins strip mining.
  4. Searches until the requested resource is found.
  5. Collects the drops.
  6. Returns the resources to you.

Butter Bot cannot magically see through solid walls. A block must be detected within the allowed range, and Butter Bot must physically tunnel through surrounding blocks to reach it.

It only collects drops related to its current job, preventing its backpack from filling with unwanted cobblestone.

Supported Resources

Resource Mining behaviour
Diamond Digs toward Y -58
Redstone Digs toward Y -58
Gold Digs toward Y -16
Lapis Lazuli Digs toward Y 0
Iron Digs toward Y 15
Coal Digs toward Y 45
Copper Digs toward Y 48
Emerald Digs toward Y 100
Wood Searches the surface for logs

Tunnels

Give Butter Bot:

  • A starting coordinate
  • An ending coordinate
  • A tunnel size

Available tunnel sizes:

  • 1x2
  • 2x2
  • 3x3

Butter Bot walks to the starting point and excavates the tunnel one slice at a time while remaining at the selected Y level.

It automatically places a torch every 6 blocks.

Lava Protection

When Butter Bot detects lava in its path, it stops safely and reports how much of the tunnel was completed instead of opening the lava pocket and flooding the area.

Tunnel progress is saved, meaning an unfinished tunnel survives a world or server restart.

Crafting From Your Chests

Enter an item name using autocomplete and select the amount you want crafted.

Butter Bot does not automatically know what is stored inside your containers.

It must physically:

  1. Search for containers within 100 blocks.
  2. Walk to each container.
  3. Inspect its contents.
  4. Create a material checklist.
  5. Return to the appropriate containers.
  6. Take exactly the required ingredients.
  7. Craft the requested item.
  8. Deliver it to you.

When ingredients are missing, Butter Bot reports exactly what is required.

Example:

Missing for 4x Chest: 17x Oak Planks

No duplicated materials. No imaginary inventory. No teleporting items from random chests.

Batteries

Butter Bot is autonomous, but it is not powered by nothing.

One Redstone Block acts as one battery and provides one minute of active work.

There is no maximum battery capacity, so you can insert multiple Redstone Blocks and build up as much working time as needed.

Power Rules

  • Power drains only while Butter Bot is actively working.
  • Idle Butter Bots consume no power.
  • Charging must happen within 5 blocks of the Bot Base.
  • Reaching zero power causes Butter Bot to shut down.
  • A shutdown drops everything currently stored in its backpack.

The text above Butter Bot changes depending on its remaining power:

Power level Display
Normal Green
Below 30 seconds Yellow
Empty Red — NO FUEL

Try not to send it into a cave with three seconds of battery remaining. The outcome is mathematically predictable.

Managing Your Butter Bots

The My Bots tab displays every Butter Bot you own within 128 blocks of the Bot Base.

Each entry shows:

  • Bot name
  • Remaining power
  • Current activity
  • Ownership status
Control Action
Click a bot row Select that Butter Bot
+⚡ Insert one battery using one Redstone Block
✖ Release ownership of the Butter Bot

Releasing a Butter Bot removes its owner. After that, another player can claim it.

Butter Bots owned by another player will refuse your commands. Only the current owner can release them.

Program Butter Bot With Lua

Built-in jobs are only the beginning.

Open the Program tab to write custom Lua programs, similar to programming a turtle in CC: Tweaked.

A running Lua program receives the highest behaviour priority and overrides normal jobs.

Security

Scripts run inside a sandbox on a separate thread.

Lua programs have:

  • No file-system access
  • No io access
  • No os access
  • No ability to stop the Minecraft server

When a program fails, the error is reported in chat instead of crashing the game.

Lua API

Function Description
bot.say(text) Display a speech bubble above Butter Bot
bot.pos() Return the current x, y and z coordinates
bot.goTo(x, y, z) Walk to a position and return true or false
bot.dig(x, y, z) Break a block within reach
bot.scan("name", radius) Find the nearest matching block
bot.deliver() Walk to the owner and deliver the backpack
bot.inventoryCount() Return the number of carried items
bot.sleep(seconds) Pause execution

Example Program

bot.say("Program started!")

local ox, oy, oz = bot.scan("diamond_ore", 16)

if ox then
    bot.say("Diamond ore detected.")

    if bot.goTo(ox, oy, oz) then
        bot.dig(ox, oy, oz)
        bot.deliver()
    end
else
    bot.say("Nothing nearby. Beginning excavation.")
end

Speech Bubbles and Notifications

Butter Bot communicates using speech bubbles displayed above its head.

Speech bubbles disappear automatically, keeping the chat clear.

Only important events are sent to the chat log, including:

  • Completed deliveries
  • Missing crafting ingredients
  • Job failures
  • Lua errors
  • Safety interruptions
  • Pathfinding failures

Persistence and Pathfinding

Idle Butter Bots remain exactly where you leave them.

They:

  • Never despawn
  • Preserve their assigned jobs
  • Save tunnel progress
  • Drop their backpack when destroyed
  • Resume correctly after world restarts

When normal pathfinding fails while returning home, Butter Bot attempts to dig through obstacles instead of immediately abandoning the job.
