Description

Storage Bot vs Copper Golem

The Storage Bot is designed as a much more capable alternative to the vanilla Copper Golem's basic item-sorting behaviour.

A Copper Golem moves items between chests with relatively limited control over where those items ultimately go.

The Storage Bot instead creates a proper destination-based storage network.

If you have a chest containing cobblestone, the bot recognises that chest as a home for cobblestone. If another chest contains diamonds, it recognises that as a destination for diamonds.

This means you can organise your storage room exactly how you want and let the Storage Bot handle the repetitive sorting.

It is significantly more useful than a Copper Golem while deliberately avoiding instant, invisible inventory transfers. Your little worker still has to physically navigate your base and deliver everything itself.

Stats

  • Search Area: 32 blocks in every direction
  • Maximum Carry Capacity: 64 items
  • Cargo Types: One item type at a time
  • Movement Speed: Player sprint speed
  • Navigation: Full mob pathfinding
  • Swimming: Yes
  • Vertical Container Reach: Can access containers positioned 3 blocks above its walking path
  • Supported Destinations: Chests and barrels
  • Theoretical Network Size: Approximately 7,500 containers

A single Storage Bot can theoretically search a network containing thousands of storage containers.

For perspective, there are roughly 1,440 survival-obtainable items in Minecraft. A storage room with a dedicated container for every one of them is therefore easily within the Storage Bot's capabilities.

For normal survival storage rooms, its capacity is enormous.

Intelligent Destination Selection

Storage Bots do not simply place items into random empty containers.

Instead, they search for containers that already contain the item they are carrying.

This allows your existing storage organisation to define the sorting system naturally.

You decide where items belong.

The bot figures out how to get them there.

If no suitable destination exists, the bot leaves that item alone rather than dumping it somewhere unwanted.

If a destination becomes full before the bot arrives, the bot returns the remaining items safely to its Storage Chest.

Real Pathfinding

Storage Bots use Minecraft's normal navigation system.

They can:

  • Walk through your storage room
  • Navigate around obstacles
  • Jump when necessary
  • Swim through water
  • Reach elevated storage containers
  • Identify destinations they cannot currently reach

If a chest or barrel is inaccessible, the bot will not endlessly stand around trying to reach it. Unreachable destinations are temporarily ignored, allowing the bot to continue working elsewhere.

If the route later becomes accessible, the bot can reconsider the container.

This makes Storage Bots suitable for real survival builds rather than requiring every storage room to be designed around perfectly flat AI paths.

Crafting

Storage Bot

The Storage Bot is crafted with:

  • 4 Iron Ingots
  • 2 Gold Ingots
  • 2 Diamonds
  • 1 Redstone Dust

Recipe:

DRD
IGI
IGI

Where:

D = Diamond
R = Redstone Dust
I = Iron Ingot
G = Gold Ingot

This makes Storage Bots relatively expensive early in the game while remaining practical to produce once you have established a developed survival base.

Storage Chest

Every Storage Bot requires its own dedicated Storage Chest.

The Storage Chest is crafted using:

  • 1 Chest
  • 7 Amethyst Shards
  • 1 Redstone Dust

The Storage Chest is a standalone container and cannot connect to another Storage Chest to form a double chest.

Picking Up Your Storage Bot

Storage Bots are not permanently attached to one location.

Shift-right-click a Storage Bot to pick it back up.

If the bot is currently carrying items, those items are dropped before the bot is collected.

You can then move it to another Storage Chest or redesign your storage system without losing the bot.

If a Storage Bot is placed without a valid Storage Chest, it simply remains idle until properly connected.

Built for Large Survival Storage Rooms

Storage Bot is particularly useful for players who enjoy building large, organised storage systems but dislike manually sorting every inventory after returning from an adventure.

Instead of building complicated redstone item sorters for hundreds or even thousands of items, you can create a normal storage room using ordinary chests and barrels.

Organise it naturally.

Put examples of each item where you want them stored.

Then let your Storage Bots handle the work.

Whether you have 20 containers, 200 containers, a dedicated container for every survival-obtainable item, or an enormous theoretical network approaching 7,500 containers, the same simple system applies.

Dump your items in the Storage Chest. Let the bots sort out the rest.
