Description

Chald Recipe Blocker

A lightweight, server-side only NeoForge mod that lets server admins disable crafting recipes for specific items — either by listing item IDs in a config file, or live in-game through a built-in GUI editor. No scripting language, no extra dependencies.

Why

Big modpacks often ship overpowered, exploitable, or otherwise undesirable items that you don't want players to be able to craft, but you don't want to fork and recompile every mod just to remove a recipe. Full scripting frameworks like CraftTweaker or KubeJS can do this and much more, but they're a heavy dependency if recipe removal is all you need.

Chald Recipe Blocker does exactly one thing: it removes recipes whose result matches an item ID you list in the config. Nothing else about the item is touched — it still exists, can still be obtained via /give, loot tables, trading, or other mods.

Features

  • Config-driven — no scripts, no code, just a .toml list of item IDs
  • In-game GUI editor/crb gui opens a familiar chest-style menu where operators can add or remove blocked items by placing/removing items, no config editing or restart needed
  • Any recipe type — crafting table, furnace, smithing, blast furnace, or any custom recipe type added by other mods; the mod filters by result item, not by recipe type
  • Applies automatically on server start, on every /reload, and instantly when saved through the GUI
  • Server-only — no client installation required, no mod-mismatch errors when vanilla or third-party clients connect
  • Multi-version — built and published separately for Minecraft 1.21 through 1.21.11

How it works

Minecraft doesn't expose an official API to remove a loaded recipe at runtime. After each recipe reload — and after every GUI save — this mod scans every currently loaded recipe, checks its output item against your blocklist, and removes matching entries from the server's recipe manager, before the client ever gets to see them.

Configuration

Edit config/chaldrecipeblocker-server.toml:

[recipes]
    blockedItemIds = [
        "minecraft:netherite_ingot",
        "minecraft:elytra",
        "somemod:overpowered_item"
    ]

Restart the server or run /reload to apply changes — or skip the file entirely and use /crb gui (requires operator level 2) to edit the list live.

Compatibility

Built for NeoForge across MC 1.21–1.21.11 (matching NeoForge 21.x builds per version). Since it relies on internal recipe-manager fields to work around the missing official API, future Minecraft/NeoForge updates may require a mod update before it works again — check the changelog if recipes stop being filtered after updating.
