About

Description

Every player's head, right next to their name

Chat is a wall of names. ChatHeads (ChatFaces) puts each player's head in front of theirs, so you pick out who said what at a glance instead of reading every line.

Nothing to install for your players

It runs on the server and nowhere else. Players join with a completely unmodified client and the heads are simply there. No mod to install, no resource pack prompt, nothing to accept.

The head is drawn from the skin the client already holds for that player, so it arrives in full colour the instant the message does. No skin data is pushed to anyone, and the server never calls out to fetch one.

Configuration

Three switches in config/chatfaces.json:

Option Default Effect
enabled true Master switch. Off leaves chat exactly as vanilla sends it.
hatLayer true Draw the skin's outer layer (hat, hair) over the face.
gapAfterFace true A space between the head and the name instead of sitting them flush.

Requirements

Server-side only. No Fabric API, no other dependencies. Works in singleplayer too.
