🌱 Organic XP
Earn experience by playing the way you want to play.
Many skill and leveling mods spend vanilla XP levels to improve things like mining, woodcutting, farming and exploring. But in vanilla, that XP mostly comes from killing mobs and mining a handful of ores. Organic XP changes that. Farmers, builders, explorers, miners and crafters all earn XP from what they're already doing, so you can level up your way without grinding mob farms.
Rewards are normal vanilla XP, so Organic XP works with any mod that uses vanilla XP levels, with no setup or integration needed.
- ⚒️ Tool work drops XP orbs (chopping, mining, digging, farming, shearing and brushing), so Mending keeps your tools repaired.
- ✨ Everything else goes straight into your XP bar, so there are no orbs to chase.
Ways to earn XP
🌲 Woodcutting
- Chopping logs from trees (1–2 XP)
- Stripping logs with an axe (1 XP)
🌾 Farming
- Harvesting fully grown crops, including modded crops (1–3 XP)
- Melons and pumpkins grown from stems (1–3 XP)
🍯 Gathering
- Sugar cane, cactus, bamboo, kelp and mushrooms (25% chance)
- Picking sweet berries and glow berries
- Shearing sheep
- Milking cows, goats and mooshrooms (once per animal every 5 minutes)
- Harvesting honey and honeycomb from full hives
- Collecting bone meal from composters
🐺 Animal Husbandry
- Breeding animals, on top of vanilla's breeding XP (2–5 XP)
- Taming wolves, cats, horses, parrots and more (5–10 XP)
⛏️ Mining
- Iron, copper, gold and ancient debris, plus modded ores, which normally give no XP (1–3 XP)
- A small chance from stone, granite, diorite, andesite and tuff, and a better chance from deepslate
Terraforming
- A chance from digging dirt, sand, gravel and clay with a shovel
🧭 Exploration
- Opening structure loot chests for the first time (15–30 XP)
- Unlocking trial chamber vaults (15–30 XP)
- Archaeology: brushing suspicious sand and gravel (3–6 XP)
- Discovering new biomes, structures and dimensions, modded ones too, each with an on-screen message
🔥 Processing
- Smelting, smoking and blast furnacing (scaled by cook time)
- Brewing potions (1–2 XP per potion)
- Cooking on campfires
💰 Commerce
- Trading with villagers (3 XP at Novice, up to 7 at Master) and wandering traders
🔨 Crafting
- A bonus the first time you craft each item (10–25 XP), with a "New Item Mastered" message
- An 8% chance of XP per item on every craft after that
- Stonecutter recipes, smithing table upgrades and armor trims
🏆 Advancements
- XP for every advancement you earn, from vanilla or any other mod: 5–10 for tasks, 15–25 for goals, 30–50 for challenges
Built to resist farming
Organic XP rewards real gameplay, not exploits:
- Placed blocks don't count. Placing and breaking the same log, pumpkin, ore or sugar cane gives nothing. Natural blocks, and trees and crops you grow, still count.
- Crafting loops are detected automatically. Items that can be crafted back into themselves (ingots ↔ blocks, ingots ↔ nuggets, or longer chains through any mod's recipes or machines) only give the first-time bonus.
- No XP from silk touch on ores, matching vanilla.
- Machines and automation never earn XP. Only real players do.
- One-time rewards really are one-time. Each loot chest, vault, biome, structure and dimension rewards once per player.
- Repeatable actions have limits: cooldowns on milking, small chances on fast actions, and no double-dipping on ores that already drop XP.
Fully configurable
Every XP source can be tuned or turned off, from the config file or in-game (Mods → CodeBadger: Organic XP → Config):
- XP amounts and chances for every source
- Whether player-placed blocks count
- Automatic crafting loop detection, plus your own crafting blacklist
- An advancement blacklist (single advancements or whole mods)
Modpack makers can also use block tags to add or remove which blocks give XP, including crops, plants, ores and stone.
💡 Running a skyblock or stone-generator pack? Set
stone_chanceto0in the config so regular stone gives nothing.
FAQ
Does it work with my skill mod? If the skill mod spends vanilla XP levels, yes. Organic XP just gives normal XP.
Does Mending work? Yes, for tool work: chopping, mining, digging, farming, shearing and brushing all drop XP orbs.
Client or server? Install it on both. All XP logic runs on the server, so on multiplayer the server's config decides everything.
Will it make XP too easy? The defaults are tuned to feel like a steady trickle, not a flood. If they don't suit your server or pack, every value can be changed.
