Description
Context
The right controls, exactly when you need them.
Large modpacks can introduce hundreds of items, machines, tools, and keybindings. Remembering how every gadget works—or repeatedly searching through the controls menu—quickly becomes frustrating.
Context adds a compact, contextual control display that shows the actions relevant to the item you are holding or the block you are looking at.
Features
- Displays useful controls directly on the HUD.
- Uses your actual configured keybindings instead of hard-coded keys.
- Supports modded items that use Minecraft’s standard interaction behaviours.
- Displays up to five prompts (three default) at once to avoid unnecessary HUD clutter.
- Can be enabled or disabled at any time by pressing F8, and customised by pressing F10.
- Runs entirely on the client—servers do not need Context installed.
- Adds no blocks, items, recipes, or world-generation content.
Context only displays information. It does not activate controls, automate actions, or change how items behave.
Designed for Modpacks
Context includes a data-driven prompt system that allows mod developers, resource-pack creators, and modpack authors to add support for unusual tools and machines without modifying Context itself.
Custom definitions can target any registered item or block and specify:
- The input or key combination to display.
- A short description of the action.
- Prompt priority.
- Translation keys for localisation.
Definitions are loaded from:
assets/<namespace>/context_prompts/*.json
This makes it possible for a modpack to provide helpful controls for wrenches, spellbooks, building gadgets, vehicles, machines, backpacks, and other specialised content.
Current Development Status
Context is in early development. The initial release focuses on the core detection system, HUD, standard Minecraft interactions, and the custom prompt format.
Future versions are planned to include:
- More built-in contextual detections.
- Configurable HUD position, scale, colours, and visibility.
- Temporary prompts that fade after the context changes.
- A recall key for showing recently hidden prompts.
- Improved modifier-key combinations.
- More integrations with popular mods and modpacks.
- Easier in-game configuration.
Feedback and prompt-definition contributions are welcome.
Modpack Permission
Context may be included in public or private modpacks.
