Description
Create: Torque Rails
Trains now need real rotational power to move.
Build a Train Engine into your train and feed it rotation. Its RPM sets how fast the train can go, and every carriage adds stress, so longer trains need bigger power plants to keep up speed.
How it works
- Place a Train Engine block on your train and connect it to a rotation network, just like any other Create component.
- The engine's RPM*determines your train's top speed. Faster spinning engine, faster train, up to a configurable cap (default 256 RPM for full speed).
- Every carriage you add puts stress on your engines (default: 16 SU per RPM, shared across all engines on the train). Long trains need real power plants, not a single waterwheel.
- No engine, or a stalled one? The train won't move.
Machinery keeps running while you ride
This is the part that makes it click: the machines on your train don't turn off when the train moves. Build an actual power plant on a flatbed car and it keeps working the whole trip:
- Steam engines and boilers
- Diesel engines
- Pumps, pipes, and tanks
- Blaze burners and basins
Glue fluid source blocks (water, lava, etc.) onto a train car and they travel with it, so your boiler never runs dry mid-journey.
Interact with your train on the move
- Turn hand cranks to add manual power
- Fill tanks with buckets while rolling
- Fuel burners on the go
- Check engine RPM and stress at a glance with goggles
Creative tools
A Creative Train Engine is included for builders and server admins who want guaranteed top speed without wiring up a full power plant.
Compatibility
- Requires Create and Create: Steam 'n' Rails
Philosophy
Torque Rails is deliberately simple: it's a casual "your train's speed depends on how much power you've built," not a full physics simulation. If you want strict momentum/braking-distance realism, this probably isn't that mod; it's meant to make building a working train feel mechanical without demanding an engineering degree.
Configuration
Server/pack owners can tune:
- Stress per carriage — how much SU each carriage demands per RPM
- Full speed RPM — the engine RPM needed to hit top speed
