Description

Two independent switches for creeper blasts: stop them breaking blocks, and/or make every block that does break drop its full ordinary loot. Damage, knockback, sound, particles, and the creeper itself stay vanilla.
Install on the server (and in singleplayer). The rules are decided server-side, so every player gets them whether or not they have the mod. A client-only install does nothing.
Dependencies: Fabric & NeoForge require Architectury API. Forge requires no additional dependencies.
Free to use in any modpack — public or private, no permission needed.
What it does
- (A) Stop block breaks — the blast still hurts and throws you; walls stay up.
- (B) Full ordinary drops — vanilla rolls creeper loot against the blast radius and keeps roughly half; with this on, each broken block drops what a bare-hand break would (cobble from stone, dirt from grass, one diamond from ore — not Silk Touch, not Fortune, never more than one primary drop per block).
- Independent switches — keep craters and fix drops, ban craters entirely, or use different rules for ordinary vs charged creepers.
- Creepers only — TNT, ghasts, withers, crystals, beds, and modded explosions are untouched.
Defaults
Out of the box:
| Breaks blocks | Drops | |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary creeper | no | full (when you turn breaking back on) |
| Charged creeper | yes | full |
Ordinary creepers stop cratering your base; charged ones stay rare and scary, but hand every block back.
Configuration
config/creeperinsurance.json, written on first launch with comments on every key. Edit and save — the next creeper already obeys it. No restart, no command, no /reload. The mod checks the file timestamp at most once every two seconds, and only while a creeper is exploding.
| Key | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
creepers.destroyBlocks |
false |
Ordinary creepers may break blocks |
creepers.fullBlockDrops |
true |
Skip vanilla’s loot roll (only while breaking is on) |
chargedCreepersUseOwnRules |
true |
Charged creepers read their own section; false = they follow creepers |
chargedCreepers.destroyBlocks |
true |
Charged creepers may break blocks |
chargedCreepers.fullBlockDrops |
true |
Full drops for charged blasts |
debugLogging |
false |
One log line per blast naming the rule used |
Missing keys keep defaults. A file that will not parse is logged once and replaced with a fresh default. Order is fixed: destruction first, drops second — if blocks never break, fullBlockDrops does nothing.
mobGriefing false always wins. Vanilla already hands creepers “keep every block”; this mod stays out of the way and cannot put griefing back. With mobGriefing true and destroyBlocks false, only creeper block breaks are blocked — ghasts, withers, endermen, villagers, and door-breaking zombies are unchanged.
Details
- No loot tables edited and no extra items spawned — the mod either clears the doomed-block list or swaps the decaying block interaction for the plain one.
- Blocks that never drop from explosions (or need a specific tool) behave exactly as vanilla.
- Protection/claim mods that cancel the explosion first win; there is nothing left to decide.
- One config for the whole server — not per dimension, region, or player. No in-game screen; the file is the UI.
