About

Description

CTombstone-Tweaks is a set of tweaks, fixes and additions for Corail Tombstone. It used to be a module inside my content mod SRP&Wizardry InsaneTweaks; it now stands on its own, so you can use it without any of that.

It adds no items and no blocks — two Tombstone perks and a pile of behaviour, all independently config-gated in config/tombtweaks.cfg.

Coming from Insane Tweaks 1.8.0 or earlier? Read the Migrating section at the bottom before you update. Two things need your attention, and one of them will cost you perk levels if you skip it.

What it does

A whitelist for the effects Tombstone rolls

Tombstone hands out random potion effects in six places — the Ankh of Prayer, the Magic Scroll, the Lollipop, the Tablet of Cupidity, the Blessing enchantment and the Plague Bringer enchantment — and it rolls them straight out of everything registered in the game. On a big pack that is hundreds of effects from dozens of mods, most of which were never meant to land on a player at random.

Tombstone's own config only offers blacklists, and those same lists are read by the Scroll of Preservation, Magic Siphon, Mercy and the Alchemist perk — so blacklisting an effect there also stops it being preserved on death, which is usually not what you wanted.

This adds a real whitelist that only touches the rolling paths and never touches preservation. Two pools, beneficial and harmful, plus an optional separate pool for the Magic Scroll. Entries are written modid:effect[;weight][;maxAmplifier], so you can also make an effect rarer or cap how strong it rolls. Unknown ids are logged and skipped, never a crash.

Off by default — turn it on and the defaults give you a sane vanilla-plus roster.

Your grave gives your inventory back the way it was

Tombstone recovers a grave by packing everything in from the first free slot, so your hotbar comes back shuffled. This records where each item actually was when you died and puts it back there — hotbar, main inventory, armour, offhand and Baubles.

It is deliberately conservative: an item is only placed if the destination slot is empty. Anything you picked up since dying keeps its slot, and the displaced item is handed back the normal way. The worst case is exactly today's behaviour; nothing can be lost or duplicated. Snapshots go five deaths deep and are stored as slot fingerprints, not as items.

On by default. Only affects deaths that happen while it is enabled — an older grave has no layout recorded and is recovered normally.

Per-perk caps, and two perks of my own

Every one of Tombstone's ten native perks gets an Enabled switch and a Max Level cap. The cap can only lower a perk's ceiling, never raise it above Tombstone's own maximum, and out of the box every value matches the native one — it is a lever, not a nerf.

⚠️ Tombstone strips a disabled perk from a player's map and refunds the points, so switching a perk off mid-world erases what players invested in it rather than parking it. Decide before your players buy in.

Two custom perks join the Knowledge of Death tree:

  • Assimilated Knowledge"You have cut open enough of the hive to start reading it." Killing a high-tier Scape and Run: Parasites mob has a chance to grant knowledge. Five levels, 7% each. The qualifying roster is 26 parasite families — the Adapted and Ancient lines, the named heavies, the apex mobs and the nexus structures. The Primitive line is deliberately excluded as chaff. Still under playtest; expect the numbers to move.
  • Relief for the Damned"The Ring of the Seven Curses still takes its due, but no longer all of it…" Waives 12% of every Enigmatic Legacy Cursed Ring penalty per level, three levels. At maximum the ring's 50% monster-damage reduction becomes 32%, its doubled incoming damage becomes 1.64×, and its 30% armour debuff becomes 19.2%. Greys itself out when Enigmatic Legacy is absent.

Alignment for raid mods Tombstone does not know about

Tombstone only recognises one kind of raider: a zombie from its own village siege. If your pack uses a different raid system, killing actual raiders pays no alignment and never completes the raider advancement.

This pays out through Tombstone's own API when you kill a listed entity, worth exactly what a native siege raider is worth — the amount is read from tombstone.cfg, there is no separate knob to get out of sync. Matched by exact registry name, and the default list covers the Raids backport's pillager and ravager plus the three vanilla illagers. Witches are deliberately left out, since they spawn worldwide and counting them would pay alignment for swamp grinding.

On by default. Do not list anything Tombstone already rewards, or the kill pays twice.

Ritual book cooldowns

The Book of Disenchantment and the Book of Magic Impregnation get a cooldown when used on a decorative grave — six minutes each by default, 0 to disable. The cooldown shows on the item and survives a relog.

Grave item decay

Optional: items left in an unrecovered grave slowly decay. Off by default. Whatever it takes is backed up, and an operator can hand it back with /tombtweaks restore decay <player>, ten backups deep.

Curse of Possession fix

So Many Enchantments' Curse of Possession is supposed to make an item vanish on death. With Corail Tombstone installed it gets trapped in the grave instead. This makes it behave as intended, with the same backup-and-restore safety net (/tombtweaks restore cursed <player>).

Off by default.

Odds and ends

  • The Knowledge of Death tree gets a tab on Reskillable's inventory strip, so you can open it without the keybind.
  • The Enchanted Grave Key recipe can be removed.
  • Grave dust drop rate can be nerfed.

Migrating from Insane Tweaks 1.8.0 or earlier

1. Install this mod at the same time you update Insane Tweaks to 1.9.0 or later. Not afterwards.

The two custom perks are still registered under their original names on purpose, because Tombstone stores a player's perk levels by registry name in level.dat — renaming them would silently wipe everyone's progress. With this mod installed, nothing is lost.

Without it, nothing registers those names any more: Forge shows the missing-registry-entry screen, and clicking through it discards the invested levels for good. If you had the Tombstone module switched on, this mod is not optional.

2. Copy your settings across by hand.

A fresh tombtweaks.cfg ships with the master switches off, and it does not read your old file. The root category is still called tombstone and the option names are unchanged, so it is a single block to copy from insanetweaks.cfg into tombtweaks.cfg — but nobody does it for you, and until you do, the whole module sits idle.

What carries over untouched: grave-layout snapshots, both book cooldowns, and the Cursed Ring and grave-decay backup histories. The only thing that changed is the command name — /itweaks restore … became /tombtweaks restore …, and old backups still resolve under it.

Compatibility

  • Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge. Needs MixinBooter, or run on Cleanroom.
  • Corail Tombstone — required in practice; without it the mod loads and does nothing.
  • Optional, each detected at runtime: Reskillable (the Knowledge of Death tab), Baubles / BaublesEX (bauble slots in the grave restore), Enigmatic Legacy (Relief for the Damned), Scape and Run: Parasites (Assimilated Knowledge), So Many Enchantments (the Curse of Possession fix).
  • Nothing here needs my other mods. It is listed alongside them only because that is where it came from.

Credits

  • Corail31 — Tombstone, its public API and the perk registry these plug into.
  • CleanroomMC — modern mixin support on 1.12.2.
