Description
What is Item Counter?
Item Counter is a client-side utility mod built specifically for the Cake-Team-Towers Minecraft modpack. It displays live numeric information on the items you are currently holding, so you never have to open your inventory or count stacks manually during combat.
Features
- Item Stack Counter Shows the exact remaining count of any stackable item (arrows, snowballs, ender pearls, throwable weapons, resources) as a bold number overlay directly on the item in your hand.
- Ammunition Display For tower-defense weapons and ranged items, the mod renders a real-time ammunition counter next to the item, so you can see at a glance how many shots you have left before reloading or switching.
- Shield Durability Display Built alongside its companion mod Shield Display, Item Counter surfaces shield value / shield durability as a numeric readout on the item, giving you a clear sense of how much protection remains during a tower defense wave.
- HUD-Only, No Gameplay Impact This mod is purely visual. It does not add items, change recipes, alter mob behavior, or affect server-side mechanics. It only reads existing data and draws it on your screen.
- Performance Friendly Zero tick cost on the server side, negligible overhead on the client, designed to run smoothly alongside the rest of the Cake-Team-Towers modpack even during dense mob waves.
How does it change the player experience?
In tower-defense combat, every second counts. Before this mod, players had to:
- Open the inventory to count remaining arrows or ammunition.
- Guessing how many shots were left, often running dry mid-wave.
- Visually estimate shield durability from the tiny armor bar, which was hard to read during fast-paced fights.
With Item Counter installed:
- You always know exactly how many projectiles are left without opening your inventory, so you can focus on positioning and tower placement.
- You can judge whether to swap to a backup weapon mid-wave based on real numbers instead of guesswork.
- The shield readout tells you immediately if you need to retreat, reposition, or rely on your towers — reducing unnecessary deaths during hard waves.
- Numbers are drawn directly on the item model in your hand, so the information is in your peripheral vision without covering the center of the screen.
Example scenario
A player is defending against a large zombie wave in Cake-Team-Towers. Their bow currently shows "24" next to it, their off-hand shield shows "68%", and their secondary snowball stack shows "57". With a single glance, they decide to switch to the snowballs to slow the wave, retreat behind their towers, and re-engage with the bow once the shield regenerates — all without pressing E to open inventory.
Compatibility
- Client-side only — does not need to be installed on the server.
- Built for the Minecraft version and mod loader used by Cake-Team-Towers.
- Safe to remove: removing the mod simply hides the overlays, no world data is changed.
