Description
Curses and Cryptics is an expansion to Minecraft's curses and enchantment mechanics. It adds several new curses as well as some other items for working with them.
Curses and Cryptics can stand alone, but is intended to be played alongside another mod that overhauls the enchanting system as a whole, such as Enchants and Expeditions or Enchancement.
Curses All of the curses are intended to provide unique effects rather than being anti-enchantments. They are meant to be somewhat hindering without being annoying.
- Curse of Instability - items have a chance of breaking when modified in an anvil
- Curse of Immutability - items cannot be modified in an anvil
- Curse of Miasma - increases the radius at which mobs can sense you
- Curse of Quixotism - hides the durability bar
- Curse of Obscuring - hides the enchantment list from item tooltips
- Curse of Misappropriation - prevents the Misappropriation Sigil from being used on the item
Loot Items
- Cryptic Enchanted Book - can be combined with an item in an anvil to randomly enchant it with the enchantment level specified on the book - can also be grindstoned for a decent amount of XP
- Whetstones - can be combined with an item in a grindstone to modify its effect
- Whetstone - removes a random enchantment
- Blessed Whetstone - removes a random enchantment or curse
- Enchanted Blessed Whetstone - removes all curses, leaves all other enchantments
- Misappropriation Sigil - can be combined with an item in an anvil to reset its anvil prior work cost, but also applies the Curse of Misappropriation
Other Features
- Anvils have a very small chance of applying random curses to items. This chance increases the more damaged the anvil is and the more enchantments are already on the item being enchanted.
- Anvils can be repaired by right clicking on them with an Iron Block
- Loot dropped by mobs can now include curses
- Several advancements for the various features in the mod
A JSON config file can be used to control certain aspects of the mod, such as the chance for anvils to apply curses. Further customization, such as disabling specific enchantments can be done with datapacks.
Integration with JEI is included to allow displaying the new anvil and grindstone recipes.
May have compatibility issues with mods that significantly change anvil or grindstone functionality, such as Easy Anvils.
Currently only available for 1.21.5, I hope to port it to later versions soon. It will not be ported to earlier versions.
