Curses Revamped
No reviews yet
Curses Revamped makes Minecraft curses dangerous, weird, and worth discovering. Vanilla curses are reworked, and the additional builds add new curses, hidden fake enchantments, per-player research, cursed books, and nastier survival consequences.
Neoforge is a fork of the Minecraft Forge available for versions 1.20.1+ of Minecraft. Many Forge mods are compatible with Neoforge and vice versa.
Fabric is a mod loader for versions 1.14+ of Minecraft, particularly popular for client side and optimization mods.

Curses Revamped
Curses are no longer throwaway enchantments.
Curses Revamped makes cursed gear feel like something you actually have to think about. Items can vanish from durability loss, armor can become harder to break, curses can hide behind fake vanilla enchantment names, and unknown curses need to be researched before you fully understand them.
Quick Highlights
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- Fabric and NeoForge
- Base builds can be mostly server-side
- Additional builds add the full curse system and should be installed on both client and server
- Vanilla Curse of Vanishing and Curse of Binding are reworked
- Additional builds include hidden curses, fake enchantments, cursed books, anvil trolling, and enchanting-table research
- Bad Omen can make enchanting more cursed, while Hero of the Village helps reduce it
Which Version Should I Use?
Base version: use this if you want the vanilla curse reworks and mostly server-side behavior. Clients do not need the mod, but installing it client-side gives extra tooltip support.
Additional version: use this if you want the full chaos: new curses, fake hidden enchantments, cursed books, research, custom UI, and expanded tooltips. This version should be installed on both the server and the client.
Vanilla Curse Reworks
Curse of Vanishing
Curse of Vanishing is no longer only a death punishment. When a cursed item loses durability, it has a chance to vanish. The lower the durability gets, the more dangerous the curse becomes.
Curse of Binding
Curse of Binding now leans into the idea that the item does not want to break or leave you. Binding checks your worn armor and can combine defensive stats, enchantments, and active effects to make the bound item harder to destroy.
Mending on worn armor can also help repair the bound item. Level 1 Mending is reduced so it stays useful without becoming free durability forever.
Discovery, Fake Curses, And Research
Curse Discovery
Curses start unknown for each player in each world.
Unknown curses can use Minecraft's native scrambled obfuscated text effect. Their real names and detailed tooltip explanations are hidden until researched. Some curses can also disguise themselves as believable vanilla enchantments, which makes cursed items much easier to mistake for safe gear.
To research a curse:
- Put a cursed book or cursed item in slot 0 of an enchanting table.
- Put lapis in slot 1.
- Press the Research button.
Base research costs:
- Cursed book: 5 XP levels + 2 lapis
- Cursed item, tool, or armor: 12 XP levels + 4 lapis
Bookshelves matter. A full enchanting setup keeps the normal cost, while missing bookshelves make research more expensive. Creative players do not consume XP or lapis.
Discovery is per player and per world, so one player researching a curse does not automatically teach everyone else.
Fake Hidden Curses
Some unknown curses can pretend to be vanilla enchantments. This is tooltip-only: the real curse is still active underneath.
Examples:
- Curse of Fire can appear as Fire Protection
- Curse of Projectiles can appear as Projectile Protection
- Curse of Explosions can appear as Blast Protection
- Curse of Vulnerability can appear as Protection
- Curse of Fragility can appear as Unbreaking
- Curse of Pulling can appear as Knockback or Punch
- Curse of Backlash can appear as Thorns
- Curse of Concrete Legs can appear as Feather Falling
- Curse of Dead Wings can appear as Unbreaking or Mending
Fake curses can be especially nasty through anvils, because curse books can keep the fake name while being applied. Config options exist for the hidden fake-anvil behavior, but they are kept in the actual config file rather than Mod Menu.
Protection-style fake curses have a middle reveal state: taking matching damage can reveal the real curse name, but the detailed effect text still stays locked until enchanting-table research.
Additional Curse List
Curse of Fragility
Leveled curse. Items can take extra random durability damage when damaged. Higher levels have the current full danger, while lower levels are less severe. Can fake as Unbreaking while unknown.
Curse of Hunger
Instead of losing durability normally, the item can consume hunger. When combined with Fragility, the hunger cost can become much harsher.
Curse of Echoes
Durability damage can repeat, causing the same damage event to echo back into the item.
Curse of Soulbinding
Soulbound items stay in your inventory after death and cannot be thrown out or dropped.
Curse of Backlash
Backlash has 3 levels. When you damage something, there is a chance you take the damage yourself:
- Level 1: 8% chance
- Level 2: 17% chance
- Level 3: 25% chance
Can fake as Thorns while unknown.
Curse of Blindness
Applies to helmets and anything worn on the head. While active, it can blind the wearer.
Curse of Pulling
When you hit a target, you are pulled toward them. It works on melee weapons, bows, and crossbows. Knockback and Punch make the pull stronger, with a cap so high-level modded enchantments do not launch you too far.
Curse of Concrete Legs
Applies to boots and leggings. It acts like the reverse of Feather Falling: fall damage starts sooner and scales harder.
Curse of No Jumping
Applies to boots and leggings. It blocks normal jumping and also stops swimming upward.
Curse of Curses
This curse acts like getting hit with all of the mod's curses at once. It is rarer than normal curses because it is intentionally horrible to roll.
If Curse of Curses is on armor, it can also project held-item debuffs onto the item in your hand. That means a clean sword, bow, crossbow, or tool can still suffer curse effects because the armor is carrying the curse into what you are using.
Curse of Bad Omen
While active, the player gains Bad Omen. The longer the player survives with the curse, the higher the Bad Omen level can reach.
Curse of Reduced Reach
Reduced Reach has 4 levels and can apply to anything. Armor gives a passive reach penalty while worn, and held items give an active penalty while used.
- Level 1: reach reduced by about 1 block
- Level 2: reach reduced by about 2 blocks
- Level 3: reach reduced by about 3 blocks
- Level 4: reach becomes extremely short
Curse of Fire
Armor curse with 4 levels. Can fake as Fire Protection while unknown, but it actually makes fire worse. Fire damage is increased, and taking damage can randomly set the wearer on fire.
Curse of Projectiles
Armor curse with 4 levels. Can fake as Projectile Protection while unknown, but projectile damage is increased instead.
Curse of Explosions
Armor curse with 4 levels. Can fake as Blast Protection while unknown, but explosion damage is increased instead. Explosions can also jolt the player upward hard.
Curse of Vulnerability
Armor curse with 4 levels. Can fake as Protection while unknown, but all incoming damage is increased instead.
Curse of Crossed Wires
Reverses controls, including movement, jumping/sneaking, and mouse buttons.
Curse of Dead Wings
Applies to elytra. Elytra flight can randomly fail for a short unpredictable time. Can fake as Unbreaking or Mending while unknown.
Curse of Mercy
Prevents killing blows by leaving the target alive at 1 health when it triggers.
Curse of Magnetism
Pulls nearby dropped items and incoming arrows toward the cursed player.
Cursed Books, Loot, And Enchanting
Cursed Books And Loot
Cursed books can appear in generated loot. Holding cursed books can also apply many curse effects, so a curse does not have to be on armor or a tool to be dangerous.
Cursed Enchanting
Bad Omen increases the chance of receiving curses from the enchanting table. Hero of the Village reduces that chance.
Bad Omen can also increase the chance of getting more than one curse from a single enchant. Curse of Curses is handled specially so it does not need extra curses stacked on top of it.
If an enchanted item receives a visible curse, it can automatically equip into its matching slot so the player cannot dodge the curse by leaving it in the enchanting table. If the slot is occupied by removable gear, the cursed item can replace it. Hidden fake curses avoid auto-equipping so they do not immediately give themselves away.
