Description

Dark Entity

A Bird Box-inspired horror mod for Minecraft. Something drifts through your world that you must never look at. It has no health bar and no hitbox. It is weather. And weather doesn't stop because you swung a sword at it.

The premise

Black mist gathers just out of your line of sight and drifts toward you. Get its in view, and an exposure timer starts filling. A dark haze creeping in from the edges of your screen is your only warning. Look away, and it drains three times faster than it fills. Let the timer fill, and you're cooked well done. (Not actually; it's just going to possess you.) You're safe from it while blindfolded, blinded, behind a wall, asleep, or in spectator mode. Creative players are never targeted at all.

Features

The mist itself
  • An entity built to feel like a natural hazard, not a monster
  • Gaze-based exposure system with a genuine warning window before it's too late
  • Difficulty-tuned spawn rules, from "night only" to "constant and everywhere"

The blindfold

  • Craftable from 3 black wool + 2 string, worn in the helmet slot
  • Zero armor value
  • On the hardest difficulty, it actually covers some of your screen, so survival costs you visibility

Possession: solo

  • Lose movement, aim, attacking, and item use. The pause menu and inventory still work — being fully locked out isn't scary, it's just broken, and this mod knows the difference…
  • Your armor is stripped
  • A genuine pathfinding AI walks your body toward the nearest way to die: drowning, a long drop, a hostile mob, lava, trying the world honestly, in a shuffled order, before ever touching its own powers
  • Exhaust every option nearby and it relocates you somewhere darker and searches wider each time, rather than giving up
  • Only as an absolute last resort does it fly you up for a fall, or simply squeeze. There is always a way out, and it's always dying

Possession: with other people online

  • Multiplayer flips the script: you keep your body, but you inherit the other role from the film. Ten minutes to make someone else see it.
  • Dark smoke trails visibly off you where others can see.
  • Sneak up behind a blindfolded player and tear their cloth off to pass the curse on. Succeed before time runs out, and you get to name any item in the game, modded included, as your reward
  • Fail, and it claims your SOUL

Hallucinations

  • Rendered client-side only, through the game's real mob models, in colors no vanilla mob has ever worn: bone-white sheep, near-black villagers, wrong-colored wolves, standing in fields watching you
  • Tall motionless figures that vanish the instant you look straight at them
  • None of it exists on the server. The friend standing right next to you sees ordinary daylight. You cannot tell if you've genuinely gone crazy or not…

Corrupted villagers

  • Villagers the mist already took. They keep the villager silhouette on purpose from across a field; they read as a person, and only up close do the white eyes give it away
  • They don't fight. They walk up, rip your blindfold off, and carry you
  • Escape is a five-stage skill check
  • Whole villages can be corrupted

Three difficulties

  • Easy, Hard, and Realistic each change the actual rules: spawn timing, whether corrupted villagers exist at all, whether the blindfold blocks your screen

The Finishing touch

On the hardest difficulty, the sky itself becomes the monster. Tilt your head more than about 32° above open ground, and the exposure timer starts filling with nothing in front of you at all because it isn't in front of you anymore; it's above you, all of it. There is no entity to spot and avoid. The only shelter is a roof, a canopy, or the cloth over your eyes. And then it starts talking to you. Every few minutes, real chat messages arrive styled as another mod's quest notification, or worse, as a private message from one of your actual online friends, using the game's own real whisper formatting, asking you to meet them somewhere. The coordinates are always real. The place is always the worst place you could go. It's not a jump scare. It's a mod that studies how you'd normally trust your screen, and spends that trust against you.
