In vanilla Minecraft, whenever a mob (such as a Zombie or Skeleton) picks up an item off the ground, it is permanently marked as persistent. In modded environments or long-running servers, these mobs accumulate in underground caves over time, permanently filling the server mob cap. Leading to fewer entities on the surface and lag.

Despawnings fixes this problem by allowing mobs that became persistent solely from picking up ground items to naturally despawn again, while safely dropping any collected equipment on the ground so no player items are lost at all.

Here's other features that this mod handles:

- Crowd control: Caps how many mobs can pile into a chunk, an area, or a whole dimension, and removes the ones furthest from any player first.

- Spawn limits: Refuses new natural spawns in places that are already packed. Cheaper than deleting the mob afterwards, and it stops mobs materialising in your face.

- Less clutter: Dropped items and XP orbs get merged together instead of sitting there as hundreds of separate entities.

- Cheaper pile-ups: Mobs shoving each other is the single most expensive part of a mob pile. That cost is now capped.

- /despawnings stats: Tells you what your entity count is actually made of, right down to which item is flooding the ground. Usually the answer is not what you expected.

Nothing here deletes anything you'd miss. Named, tamed, leashed, ridden, bred, boss and spawn-egg mobs are never touched, neither is anything standing near a player, and you can exclude any mob or dimension you want.

Three presets (vanilla, balanced, aggressive) if you don't feel like reading a config file.

A lot of mods like this already exist. I know. This one fits my purpose more and generally works better than the other ones. (also doesn't require a dependency)

Recommended to use with Mob Spawn Fix
