DIST x DIFF turns distance from world spawn into an endless difficulty and loot curve.

Travel further and hostile mobs gain health, damage, equipment, potion effects, larger groups, and a chance to become named minibosses. Surive those enemies and they can drop fully generated Legendary, Demonic, and Cosmic equipment. Plus, a complete Path of Exile inspired (or rather, copied) crafting system for modifying that equipment.

The mod supports both vanilla and modded weapons and armors.

The loop

  • Leave the safe zone.
  • Travel farther from world spawn.
  • Fight increasingly unreasonable enemies.
  • Find rare equipment and crafting currency.
  • Build an item that probably might be too overpowered that it shouldn't exist.
  • Go even farther.

The default configuration is intentionally agressive, scaling is quite hard in development though, let me know your thoughts and scaling may definitely change!!!

Distance-based difficulty

Difficulty is calculated using horizontal distance from the world's shared spawn:

Difficulty = 1 + max(0, Distance - Safe Radius / Blocks Per Step

With the default settings:

  • 0-1,000 blocks = safe zone - 1x
  • 2,000 blocks = 2x
  • 10,000 blocks = 10x
  • 100,000 blocks = 100x

The default health cap is 1,000x, while hostile and environmental damage can scale up to 100x.

Hostile projectiles use a gentler square-root scaling.

Scaled damage also attempts to avoid multiplying armor durability loss. A 100x hit may destroy the player, but it should not consume 100x the normal armor durability.

The safe zone

The first 1,000 blocks around spawn are protected by default.

Inside this radius:

  • Hostile mobs do not receive DxD scaling.
  • Minibosses and artifact drops are disabled.
  • Tier-upgrade orbs and Mirrors cannot drop.
  • Ordinary crafting currency can still drop, but at one-quarter of its normal rate.
  • Entering or leaving the zone displays an action bar message.

The current multiplier and safe zone state can optional be displayed in F3.

Elite mobs

Enemies become more complicated, not only healthier.

As distance increases, hostile mobs may receive:

  • Armor selected from every compatible registered item.
  • Modded or vanilla weapons.
  • Protection and sharpness enchantments.
  • Speed, strength, resistance, regeneration, absorption, and other effects.
  • Up to six simultaneous potion effects by default.
  • Potion amplifiers up to V.
  • Effects lasting for a long time.
  • Additional copies of the original mob.

Enemies that cannot wear armor, such as spiders, receive potion effects more frequently instead.

Equipment is selected using a registry-based power score. Extremely powerful modded equipment therefore requires a substantially greater distance before enemies can use it. Ordinary equipment remains possible at every distance.

Elite equipment added by DxD cannot drop by default. Server owners can enable it an configure the drop chance.

Group duplication is tick-budgeted and protected by a nearby-hostile safety cap. The default maximum is eight additional mobs, with no more than 48 hostiles allowed within 32 blocks.

Named minibosses

Every original hostile group outside the safe zone has a chance to produce a named miniboss.

The chance beghins at 1.5% and increases with distance to a maximum of 8% by default.

Minibosses receive;

  • Procedurally generated names and titles
  • An additional 2.75x health multiplier.
  • Ad additional 2.5x melee-damage multiplier.
  • Increased armor, toughtness, speed, and knockback resistance.
  • Three additional same-type minions.
  • Long-distance player acquisition.
  • Fall-distance immunity.
  • A second-phase enrage below 50% health.
  • Lunges toward pillaring or unreachable players.
  • The ability to break doors, gates, and configurable soft obstructions.
  • A slight size increase.

The Wither, Warden, and Elder guardian are not promoted because they are already bosses!!!

Multiplayer rewards

Every nearby player or player who contributed damage receives an independent reward roll.

Looting is recorded during the fight, including the best Looting level used. If no direct player kill can be identified, the system attempts to credit the nearest player.

This means multiplayer groups do not need to fight over the person receiving the only roll.

Artifact equipment

Minibosses can drop generated equipment in three tiers:

Legendary, which gives a bonus enchantment with levels up to +1 vanilla.

Demonic, which can be +2 levels.

Cosmic, which can be +3.

Base artifact odds per participant roll, before Luck, Looting and Distance.

LG: approx 1/80.

DC: approx 1/600.

CS: approx 1/1300.

at 100x difficulty, every elligible miniboss artifact roll is guaranteed to be at least LG by default.

Dropped artifacts can use compatible vanilla or modded: swords, axes, pickaxes, shovels, hoes, bows, crossbows, fishing weapons, tridents/tagged weapons, armor, shields, elytra.

Stronger base items require a larger distance-derived power budget. A sword with absurd modded attributes may technically be eligible, but it will only appear at an appropriately absurd distance.

Generated names

Item names are constructed from their strongest prefix and strongest suffix.

Examples might look like:

[LG] Savage Netherite Sword of Fortune
[DC] Hellforged Battleaxe of the Red Eye
[CS] Worldcleaver Greatsword of Certain Doom

The tooltip always sorts prefixes above suffixes and prioritizes rarer affixes.

Hold Shift to show each affix's possible range directly beside its rolled value.

[image showing some enchantments]

Rare modifiers use lower weights, obviously.

Affixes on hand-held items work in either main or offhand. Original armor, weapon and tool attributes are preserved rather than replaced.

Absorption provided by artifacts recharges after 10 seconds without taking damage by default.

Crafting artifacts

Crafting uses a Smithing Table without introducing a custom menu:

Main hand: crafting currency
Offhand: target item
Action: right-click a Smithing Table

When the conditions are valid, the target item and its complete tooltip appear beside the screen. Hold Shift to inspect numerical roll ranges before comitting the craft.

[show this i guess]

Items can contain a maximum of:

  • Three prefixes.
  • Three suffixes.
  • One essence affix.
  • One fractured affix.
  • Optional corruption.

The item's tier acts as an affix ceiling, not a guarantee.

  • UT items roll UT affixes
  • LG items may roll UT or LG affixes.
  • DC items may roll UT, LG, or DC affixes.
  • CS items may roll any affix tier.

A Cosmic craft can therefore produce six disappointing UT affixes or six Cosmic affixes if the universe briefly likes you.

Crafting does not add free Minecraft enchantments. Above-level enchantments remain special to dropped artifacts and corruption outcomes.

Crafting currency

Exalted Orbs:

  • Exalted Orb: Adds one weighted affix. Using one on a normal compatible item creates an Untiered [UT] item.
  • Greater Exalted Orb: Adds an affix with a minimum tier of LG+. Requires an LG+ item.
  • Perfect Exalted Orb: Adds an affix with a minimum tier of DC. Requires a DC+ item.

Chaos Orbs:

Chaos Orbs reroll one affix, not the entire item.

  • Chaos Orb: Rerolls one eligible affix within the item's tier ceiling.
  • Greater Chaos Orb: The new affix is at least LG. requires LG+.
  • Perfect Chaos Orb: The new affix is at least DC. requires DC+.

Control currency:

  • Divine Orb: Rerolls the numeric values of every modifiable DxD affix.
  • Orb of Annulment: Removes one random removable affix, reopening its slot.
  • Fracturing Orb: Permanently locks one random affix. Requires at least four affixes.
  • Vaal Orb: Corrupts the item and permanently prevents further modification.
  • Mirror of Kalandra: Creates one immutable mirrored copy while preserving the original.

Fractured affixes cannot be rerolled, removed, or divined. Only one affix can be fractured on an item.

Mirrored and corrupted items cannot be modified again.

Tier-upgrade Orbs:

  • Legendary Orb: Raises UT to LG.
  • Demonic Orb: Raises LG to DC.
  • Cosmic Orb: Raises DC to CS.

Upgrading increases the items affix ceiling without replacing its existing affixes.

Tiered artifacts can be salvaged by sneak-right-clicking on a Grindstone. Salvaging produces one matching shard, and four shards craft back into the corresponding upgrade orb.

Essences

Essences force an affix from a specific category.

  • Essence of Luck & Golden Luck: Luck.
  • Essence of Health & Vigor: Health and life recovery.
  • Essence of Damage & Destruction: Offensive damage.
  • Essence of Armor & Titans: Armor and defense.
  • Essence of Absorption & Immersion: Maximum absorption.
  • Essence of Speed & Haste: Movement, attack, mining, or ranged speed.

Lesser essences work on UT+ items.

Greater Essences produce stronger [C] affixes and require an LG+ item.

An item may contain one Essence affix.

Essences can drop from ordinary scaled mobs and miniboss reward rolls. Lesser Essences are more common than their greater versions.

Omens

Right-click an Omen in the air to activate or deactivate it.

Active Omens gain an enchanted appearance and a red inventory outline. They wait until a compatible craft occurs and are ignored by unrelated crafting actions.

  • Omen of Whittling: The next Chaos Orb targets the lowest-tier, most commonly weighted elligible affix.
  • Omen of Dextral Erasure: The next Chaos Orb targets a suffix.
  • Omen of Sinistral Erasure: The next Chaos Orb targets a prefix.
  • Omen of Homogenizing Exaltation: The next Exalted Orb attempts to add the same type of modifier already present.
  • Omen of Greater Exaltation: The next compatible Exlated Orb applies twice.
  • Omen of Corruption: The next Vaal Orb is guaranteed to produce a visible outcome.
  • Hinekora's Lock: Reveals the exact result of the next successful currency craft.

Dextral and Sinistral Erasure cancel one another out when both are active.

Hinekora's Lock uses a deterministic preview. Changing the orb, target item or active Omen combination changes the predicted result.

Loot presentation

Legendary, Demonic, and Cosmic artifacts use:

  • Gold, dark-red, and pink ground glows.
  • Tier-specific screen artwork.
  • Stereo, non-positional loot sounds.
  • Smooth stacking popups.
  • Chat announcements containing the beneficiary and drop coordinates.

Multiple drops append instead of restarting the current popup.

Mirror of Kalandra drops are announced server-wide with their exact dimension and coordinates.

Special DxD items are immune to fire, lava, and explosions by default.

Luck and reward scaling

Luck affects artifact and currency rarity with no hard cap.

Default luck scaling:

Loot multiplier = 2 ^ (Luck / 50)

Examples of luck values:

0 = 1x mult.
50 = 2x mult.
100 = 4x mult.
150 = 8x mult.

Distance uses a separate nonlinear loot multiplier:

Distance loot = (1 + Difficulty Steps × 0.20) ^ 1.25

Luck, distance, Looting and the configured global rate multipliers are combined.

Administrator commands:

/dxd luck <amount>
/dxd luck get
/dxd luck reset

"/dxd luck get" displays total Luck and the resulting artifact, distance and currency multipliers.

Detailed loot-roll logging can also be enabled in the configuration for balancing or server debugging.

Lucky clovers

Lucky clovers can appear in vanill and modded chest loot tables.

Chest tables are divided into:

  • Ordinary chests
  • Adventure structures
  • Elite structures such as Ancient Citites, treasure bastions and End Cities.

Eating a clover grants the stacking Luck Boost effect:

  • Lucky Clover: adds 20 minutes.
  • Golden Lucky Clover: adds 60 minutes.

Golden Clovers are substantially rarer.

Configuration

DxD includes a complete in-game configuration menu:

Mods -> DxD -> Config

The menu contains 15 pages covering:

  • Safe-zone radius and warnings
  • Difficulty distance
  • Health, damage and projectile caps
  • Mob duplication and safety limits
  • Miniboss stats and behavior
  • Elite equipment and potion effects
  • Currency and artifact drop rates
  • Loot-distance scaling
  • Affix weights
  • Absorption recharge
  • Clover chest rates and durations
  • Individual orb, Essence and Omen chances

On dedicated servers, the server owner controls the common configuration.

Mod compatibility

DxD is designed to work with modded equipment.

It discovers items through loaded registry and evaluates their real attributes, durability, equipment tags, and supported enchantments.

Modpack authors can prevent specific items from being equipped or generated by adding them to:

#dxd:exclude

Example:

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    "examplemod:admin_sword",
    "examplemod:unobtainable_chestplate"
  ]
}

The same tag also prevents excluded items from appearing as artifact drops

For configurations that allow health beyond vanilla's normal attribute limites, an attribute-limit mod such as AttributeFix is strongly recommended.

Supported versions

  • NeoForge Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Fabric: Never happening!

Important warning

The defaults are made for powerful modpacks.

At extreme distances, enemies may have enormous health pools, highly enchanted modded equipment, several potion effects, additional minions, and damage capable of killing ordinary players instantly.

Of course, that is intentional.

You can reduce every major multiplier, disable individual systems, expand the safe zone or turn DxD into a much gentler progression mod through the configuration screen. Almost everything is configurable!
