DMZ Spellbooks

Bring Ki and magic together in one Dragon Mine Z adventure.

DMZ Spellbooks is a compatibility mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 that connects Dragon Mine Z with Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.

Instead of forcing you to choose between Ki progression and spellcasting, this mod makes both systems work together. Your Dragon Mine Z character becomes the heart of your magical power, letting you cast spells, use spellbooks, fight with magic, summon allies, protect yourself, and heal without leaving your Ki-based playstyle behind.

What This Mod Does

With DMZ Spellbooks, your Ki becomes your mana.

Your Iron's Spells mana follows your Dragon Mine Z Energy, so casting spells uses the same power your character already trains and improves. As your DMZ character grows stronger, your spellcasting grows with them.

This means your magic feels like part of your character, not a separate system added on top.

Magic That Grows With Your Character

Many Iron's Spells become tied to your Dragon Mine Z strength.

As your Ki power improves, spells can become stronger too. Damage spells, healing, protective barriers, fortify effects, and summons all feel more connected to your DMZ progression.

Your spellbooks and scrolls also show the adjusted spell values, so you can clearly see what your magic will do before using it. And if they look like they don't or it's not working, it's just because you didn't use them yet.

And don't worry about Spells like Echoing Strikes, Oakskin and other effect spells that would become way too powerfull with increased spell power: This mod ONLY increases SPECIFIC aspects of spells, like DMG, Healing, Extra HP, Summon Damage and HP and so on, so effects that are for utility or have already powerfull percentage based effects are unaffected

Spellcasting in Dragon Mine Z Combat

DMZ Spellbooks makes magic useful during real Dragon Mine Z fights.

You can use spells to attack, defend, heal, summon, and support your playstyle while still relying on your Ki progression. Spell resistance can help protect you from Ki blasts, and Counterspell can even stop incoming Ki projectiles.

Equipment that increases Max Mana also increases Max Ki by the same value, and having equipment that adds more Mana Regeneration also increases your Ki Regeneration rate!

This gives spellcasters new ways to survive intense battles and gives Ki fighters more tools to play with.

Better Flow Between Both Mods

Iron's Spells stats also support Dragon Mine Z techniques.

Cast time reduction and cooldown reduction from Iron's Spells can help your DMZ Ki techniques feel faster and smoother. This makes spell gear feel valuable even when you are using Dragon Mine Z abilities.

Casting animations are also mirrored onto the Dragon Mine Z player model, helping both mods look better together. Some unusual movements may still happen, but the experience is much more connected.

What It Does Not Do

DMZ Spellbooks does not replace Dragon Mine Z or Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.

It does not add new blocks, new spell schools, new items, or a separate progression menu.

You still play Dragon Mine Z. You still use Iron's Spells. Now, they simply work as one.

Requirements

  • To use DMZ Spellbooks, you need:
  • Dragon Mine Z 2.1 or newer
  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks 1.20.1-3.16.2 or newer
  • And their dependencies

Known Issues:

Since DMZ have their own GeckoLib Models, Spellbooks animations are not played normally on the player's model, so it looks like you're doing nothing when casting. This mod atempts to fix that, but currently it contains some animation sync errors. Working on it so future updates can fix that, but until then casting will look "a little funny" lol.
