Description

Dom's Generation

Dom's Generation is a terrain generation mod focused on making Minecraft's Overworld feel larger, more dramatic, and more rewarding to explore while still feeling like Minecraft.

Version 2.2.2 out now! check changelog for details

New rare biome called the Himalayas... 1.5% chance of generating

Version 2.1.0 is a major overhaul of the original generator. Instead of simply making terrain taller, the world is now shaped by large-scale geological systems that create connected mountain ranges, foothills, plateaus, valleys, lowlands, and climate-specific landscapes.

The goal is to create terrain that feels massive without making every part of the world extreme.

Important: Select the Custom World Type

Installing Dom's Generation does not automatically replace Minecraft's Normal world generation.

When creating a new world, cycle through the available world types and select:

Dom To The Max: Alpine Expanse

For dedicated servers, use:

level-type=domthemax:alpine

A new world is strongly recommended. Existing chunks will not regenerate, and mixing old and new terrain can create noticeable seams.

What's New in Version 2.1.0

Version 2.1.0 introduces a completely redesigned terrain generation system.

  • Large, connected mountain ranges can stretch for thousands of blocks.
  • Plains, rivers, valleys, and other lowlands remain closer to normal Minecraft elevations.
  • Mountains now feature smoother foothills, broad summits, plateaus, and more natural elevation changes.
  • Terrain and biome generation follow the same underlying geology, allowing mountain biomes to better match the mountains themselves.
  • Temperature decreases naturally with elevation, creating colder environments at higher altitudes.
  • Climate now influences terrain. Cold regions can produce the largest mountain ranges, humid regions form lower green ranges, and dry regions can generate dunes, plateaus, and canyon-like landscapes.
  • Vanilla surface variety has been restored across forests, beaches, deserts, oceans, badlands, mountains, and other environments.
  • Cave generation has been adjusted for the increased terrain scale, including larger underground networks and rare massive chambers beneath sufficiently deep terrain.
  • Alpine tarns can naturally form high in the mountains when the surrounding terrain can safely contain them.
  • Suitable terrain can generate natural spillways and waterfalls between 24 and 160 blocks tall.
  • Vanilla structure biome restrictions and terrain adaptation are preserved while benefiting from improved terrain and biome alignment.

Sea level remains at Y=63, and the underground floor is Y=-64. The largest mountain ranges can rise beyond Y=500, while plains and lowlands remain much closer to familiar Minecraft elevations.

Exploration on a Larger Scale

Dom's Generation is designed around large landscapes rather than isolated extreme terrain.

You might travel through normal plains and forests before reaching foothills that gradually develop into a mountain range stretching for thousands of blocks. Rivers run through lower valleys, dry climates can open into plateaus and canyons, and high alpine regions can contain snow-covered summits, cliffs, tarns, and waterfalls.

The contrast is important. Not every part of the world is supposed to be enormous. Keeping plains and valleys lower makes encountering a huge mountain range on the horizon feel much more significant.

Performance Notice

Version 2.1.0 greatly increases the scale and complexity of world generation. Because of this, lower-end systems may experience the game falling behind on ticks, particularly when exploring quickly and generating large amounts of new terrain.

A performance fix is coming very soon. Improving generation performance is currently a priority, and an upcoming update will specifically address the tick and world-generation performance issues present in 2.1.0.

If your system struggles with this release, lowering your render and simulation distances while exploring new terrain may help in the meantime.

Current Limitations

Version 2.1.0 has undergone extensive automated world-generation testing, but there are still areas that need more real-world playtesting.

Not every possible structure placement, fully decorated desert or badlands environment, waterfall frequency across large numbers of seeds, or interaction with other terrain-generation mods has been fully tested.

If you encounter unusual terrain, broken structures, performance problems, or other generation issues, feedback and bug reports are greatly appreciated.

Compatibility

Version 2.2.2 is built specifically for:

Minecraft Java Edition 26.2

Fabric Loader 0.19.5+

Fabric API for Minecraft 26.2

Java 25+

Version 2.2.2 does not run on Minecraft 1.21.1.

Because Dom's Generation substantially changes world generation, creating a new world is strongly recommended when installing this version. Existing generated chunks will not be changed.

Normal worlds, the Nether, and the End are not replaced by the custom generator.

The Goal

The goal of Dom's Generation has always been to make Minecraft exploration feel bigger and more memorable.

Every mountain should feel worth climbing. Valleys should have room to breathe. A mountain range should feel like an actual range rather than a collection of random peaks. Traveling across the world should give you a reason to stop and look at what is on the horizon.

Version 2.2.2 is the largest step toward that goal so far, with more improvements and optimizations already on the way.
