About

Description

Drinks and Draughts is a simple datapack that adds 44 drinks to the game, as well as 1 alternate recipe for sugar using sweet berries. It also adds new mechanics involving the drinks, depending on the type. This datapack is built for performance and should have basically zero impact on the game when the mechanics are not active. To get the recipes besides the sugar, which is 2 sweet berries, craft a recipe book using 8 bottles surrounding a book and then consume it.

Drinks:

There are three types of drinks in this datapack. Generally, the more powerful the drink, the more varied and harder the ingredients are to collect.

Normal Drinks:

  • Sweet juices have low nutrition and zero saturation, but give a temporary speed boost, as well as raising sugar levels by 1 when consumed.
  • Vegetable juices have higher nutrition and saturation, but no special effects when consumed. both sweet and vegetable juices are stackable to 32.
  • Blends are stronger versions of juices that cost more to make. Both kinds give more nutrition and saturation, and sweet blends give a longer speed and haste boost as well as raising sugar levels by 1 when consumed. Both are stackable to 16
  • Teas are drinks that use dripleafs as an ingredient. They give 1 nutrition and 1 saturation as well as 2 positive effects when consumed. They are stackable to 16

Alcohols:

  • Beer gives strength temporarily as well as increasing drunkenness by 1 level when consumed. It is stackable to 32.
  • Wines give 2 different effects temporarily as well as increasing drunkenness by 3 levels when consumed. They are stackable to 8.
  • Liquors give 2-3 different effects for a longer time as well as increasing drunkenness by 8 levels when consumed. They are stackable to 8.

Supernatural Drinks:

  • Supernatural drinks come in 5 different categories, with each corresponding to a type of hazard, giving moderate to powerful themed effects as well as having related drawbacks.
  • Deep Drinks are themed after the deep dark and increase your 'deep' level when consumed.
  • Sea Drinks are themed after the oceans and increase your 'sea' level when consumed.
  • Golden Drinks are themed after golden foods and increase your 'golden' level when consumed.
  • Nether Drinks are themed after the nether and increase your 'nether' level when consumed.
  • End Drinks are themed after the end and increase your 'end' level when consumed.

Mechanics:

There are three main types of delayed effects that can impact players: sugar crashes, drunkenness, and supernatural contamination. These delayed effects come from drinking certain kinds of drinks that give effects.

  • Sugar crashes occur 2 minutes and 30 seconds after drinking your first sweet drink. This can be delayed once by drinking 2 more sweet drinks, and then delayed again for a shorter time by drinking 4 more sweet drinks. However, the more you delay the effects the worse the resulting crash, with each delay increasing the time of the negative effects as well as the amount. Once the sugar crash is over your sugar level is reset.
  • Drunkenness starts impacting a player 1 minute after they have drunk alcohol. Your level of drunkenness will increase for every drink, with stronger drinks increasing drunkenness more than weaker drinks, in the order of beer<wine<liquor. Drunkenness will decrease every minute until it reaches zero. The minimum level of drunkenness required is 3, which is equivalent to 3 beers, or 1 of any wine type. There are five levels of drunkenness that correspond to different severities of drunkenness. A high enough level of drunkenness will become toxic.
  • Supernatural contamination starts impacting a player 3 minutes after their first superantural drink of that type, and will decrease in level each minute after they are first impacted. For each theme of drink there are four levels of severity. All supernatural drinks provide only 1 level of their contamination at the start, but stronger supernatural drinks can also have negative effects, and are also more expensive. However, once you drink a supernatural drink of a type, you will be forever affected, making any drinks from that type provide 2 levels of contamination afterward.

Specific Levels:

Sugar crashes have 3 levels.

  • Level 1 is 30 seconds of mild effects and happens if you drink less than 3 drinks in a short timeframe.
  • Level 2 is 45 seconds of mild effects and happens if you drink less than 7 drinks in a short timeframe.
  • Level 3 is 60 seconds of moderate effects and happens if you drink 7 or more sweet drinks in a short timeframe.

Drunkenness has 5 levels.

  • Level 1: Tipsy is 2 seconds of moderate effects every 5 seconds and happens if your drunkenness level is between 3 and 7.
  • Level 2: Drunk is 3 seconds of moderate effects every 5 seconds and happens if your drunkenness level is between 8 and 13.
  • Level 3: Blackout is 4 seconds of moderate effects every 5 seconds and happens if your drunkenness level is between 14 and 19.
  • Level 4: Poisoned is 5 seconds of moderate effects every 5 seconds and happens if your drunkenness level is between 20 and 23.
  • Level 5: Dealthy is 5 seconds of severe effects every 5 seconds and happens if your drunkenness level is 24 or greater.

Supernatural contamination has 4 levels.

  • Level 1 is generally 30 seconds of mild effects every 180 seconds, and happens if your contamination level is between 1 and 3
  • Level 2 is generally 60 seconds of moderate effects every 180 seconds, and happens if your contamination level is between 4 and 6
  • Level 3 is generally 90 seconds of moderate effects every 180 seconds, and happens if your contamination level is between 7 and 8
  • Level 4 is generally 120 seconds of severe effects every 180 seconds, and happens if your contamination level is 9 and above
