Description
Dying is usually the worst thing that can happen. Not anymore.
Every death doubles your max health and your attack damage, and makes you 20% faster, forever. You keep your whole inventory and respawn instantly, so dying costs you nothing and pays double. Die once and you have 20 hearts. Die five times and you have 320. Die twenty times and you are walking around with 10,485,760 hearts and a million times your damage.
So the speedrun strategy is… jump off things?
- A big DEATH ×32 title, a totem sound and a chat line greet every respawn.
- The action bar always shows your deaths, hearts, damage multiplier and speed bonus.
- The health bar stays one tidy row of hearts with the real number next to it, even at ten million hearts. Vanilla would try to draw ten million heart icons.
How it works
- The rule: every player death adds a permanent ×2 to max health and to attack damage (attribute modifiers), plus +20% movement speed.
- After 20 doublings, hearts and damage stop growing (the game runs out of numbers), but speed keeps climbing.
- The death count is saved per player and survives respawns, relogs and server restarts.
- When the world starts, the mod turns on
keep_inventoryandimmediate_respawn, and turns offplayer_movement_checkso very fast players are not rubber-banded. Each of these can be switched off in the config. - Vanilla's caps on max health (1,024) and attack damage (2,048) are lifted to about 2.1 billion.
/deathsshows your count and what it bought you./deaths set <n>(op) jumps straight to any death count, which is handy for recording.
Config
Edit config/dyingisop.properties, then run /dyingisop config reload. Ops can also change options in game with /dyingisop config <option> <value>. Changes apply to everyone immediately.

Compatibility
- Fabric mod. Requires Fabric API and Fabric Loader 0.19 or newer.
- Minecraft 26.3:
dyingisop-1.1.0+mc26.3.jar. Minecraft 26.2:dyingisop-1.1.0+mc26.2.jar. - Install on the server and on every client. The rule runs on the server, and the one-row heart bar is client-side, so without it a client sees thousands of heart rows.
- Standalone: no other mods needed.
