Description
Ecliptic Seasons: TFC repair (ESTFC)
is a mod that uses Ecliptic Seasons visual snow system to replace TerraFirmaCraft block snow system, in order to fix the issue where Distant Horizons and other mods have no real-time snow in TFC distant views.
1. Snow and Textures ☃️
- Snow appearance, accumulation, and melting are entirely determined by TFC temperature and weather , while temperature is also affected by altitude; this also prevents TFC from placing physical snow blocks.
(Because TFC's temperature varies from place to place, the original ES biome snow depth logic cannot be used, so unavoidable seams occur where newly loaded chunks and already loaded chunks have different snow amounts.) - Adds visual snow cover to TFC blocks, and supports two snow texture modes:
- Simple mode (simpleSnow) – all faces uniformly use the
estfc:block/snowtexture. - Replacement mode (default) – replaces the original TFC textures face by face with the corresponding snow texture under the estfc namespace.
- Simple mode (simpleSnow) – all faces uniformly use the
- Tag support: through data packs or other mods, use the
estfc:simple_snow(simple mode) andestfc:snowable(replacement mode) tags toextend snow-covered blocks.
2. Mod Compatibility 🖇️
- In the LOD meshes generated by DH , blocks are colored according to the corrected TFC temperature, makingdistant snow colors as close as possible to near views.
- Regarding the Voxy mod, compatibility has been achieved through Ecliptic Seasons: VoxyCompact , but only for some Voxy versions. For some versions, Ecliptic Seasons: VoxyCompact is not needed (it is already built into Voxy) and it has additional features.
3. Known Issues ⚠️
- When TFC's built-in connected textures are enabled (
tfcConnectedTexture = true), snow cover textures will not work
Connected textures conflict with snow cover texture rendering; currently you can only choose one or the other. Connected textures are disabled by default to ensure snow cover works properly. - DH distant view height sampling precision issue; snow cover differs from actual conditions
Height data comes from TFC'sgetBaseHeight; large-scale mountains/valleys appear correctly in distant views, but local steep terrain (single peaks, narrow valleys, pits) is smoothed, causing obvious deviations between distant snow lines and actual conditions. - Snow cover textures are all generated by a Python script
They don't look good :( - After snowfall begins, already loaded chunks and newly loaded chunks have inconsistent snow cover ratios
