Description
๐๏ธ Eerie Nightmaresย is a lightweight vanilla friendly mod that adds a special eventย when you sleep in unsafe locations.
๐ก The goal of this mod is to encourage and reward players for sleeping in safe locations.
This mechanic existed in a primitive form before in older versions of Minecraft and was removed in late 2011.
This mod reintroduces this mechanic in a vanilla-friendly fashion, making beds slightly less powerful and creating some more immersion to sleeping in Minecraft.
When experiencing an Eerie Nightmare, a special monster or two will spawn nearby, waking you up and giving you the Insomnia Status Effect!

๐ How it works:ย
Sleeping outside will give you a high chance of experiencing an Eerie Nightmare.
Sleeping inside with a low light level will give you a moderate chance of experiencing an Eerie Nightmare.
Sleeping inside with a high light level will give you an extremely low chance of experiencing an Eerie Nightmare.
Upon waking up from a Nightmare, you will be given the status effect "Insomnia" which prevents you from sleeping for the rest of the night... You are too anxious to go back to sleep...
However, having a pet at the end of your bed will drastically reduce your Nightmare chance both inside and outside (Modded pets are also supported!)
Camping with your best friend by your side is a whole lot safer!ย

After experiencing an Eerie Nightmare, the Nightmare monsters will despawn on their own when it hits morning! Or you can fight your inner demons.ย
๐ย The Benefits:
If so far Eerie Nightmares seem like just a hindrance fear not! Because if you have met all of the conditions to ward of Nightmares (Well lit room, pets and being indoors etc)
You will have a chance to awaken from a "Splendid Dream"ย which awards you with a random beneficial Status Effect that lasts 5 whole minutes!

Experiencing a Splendid Dreamย will give you a buff depending on the type of dream you had! Example "Player dreamt of swimming blissfully in the ocean depths, you have woken up with Water Breathing!"
You will also be immune to Nightmares for 5 days after a Splendid Dream!ย
Splendid Dreams are rare and only happen occasionally! But you can increase your chances by having a pet nearby.ย
โ Why:
As it stands, Beds are one of the most powerful items in the entire game. Costing only 3 wool and 3 planks and allowing you to skip the night and avoid the dangerous parts of the game almost entirely.ย
When Beds were added the game was changed forever and the ability to sleep outside and skip the night with no caveats has encouraged a playstyle that I think most players would agree is... not great.
By adding adding back the old Nightmare mechanic and building on it, I hope it can help to make Beds more interesting and balance their influence on gameplay. Go home and sleep!
โ๏ธ Configuration:
You can use the mod's config to change the likelihood of experiencing a Nightmare and how many mobs are spawned!
You cannot currently configure what mobs spawn during a Nightmare as the list is hardcoded, but I have plans to make it a config list eventuallyโข when I can figure out how to do that.ย
Happy to receive to suggestions and feedback, but the mod is mostly feature complete!ย
