About

Description

This mod adds two items: an Empty Wisdom Template and a Forged in Wisdom Template. The Empty Wisdom Template is crafted at workbench using Crying Obsidian, four diamonds, and four Blaze Powder. If your level is 35 or higher, you can use the Empty Template while holding it in hand. It will absorb 35 levels of your experience and gives you a Forged in Wisdom Template. It allows to use it at blacksmith’s table, with a book as the material, to transfer enchantments from tools, weapons, armor, shields, fishing rods, tridents, and maces to the book. Both the template and the donor item will disappear. Curses are also transfers along with the enchantments.

While creating this mod, I tried to point a balance between the capabilities this item offers and the costs involved, while ensuring that other enchantment mechanics do not became useless. In my experience, it usually takes many attempts to get a more or less suitable set of enchants by using the enchanting table, which then also needs to be supplemented with individual enchantments from books or other items. 35 experience levels are roughly equivalent to 8–10 enchanting attempts on the enchanting table, taking into account the non-linear gain of experience. Crying obsidian is used for crafting can be found as part of broken Nether portals in limited quantities, so use it in Wisdom. Blaze powder is included in the recipe for authenticity and to ensure the crafting recipe isn’t unlocked too early. And a few diamonds.

At first, this mod is designed as a "hundred percent chance" but expensive and quite hard to reach enchanting alternative based on looting. You often find useless, mostly golden items with good enchantments, either as drop or as loot. Now you can remove the enchantments from it and transfer to the item you need. If it’s a few regular enchantments - it’s worth it. If it’s just one rare enchantmant - it’s worth it too! If item have curse, well, try again - you’re out of luck, it not has to be easy. It’s nice that gold items will no longer be completely useless.

[[ Also, in case you didn't know, gold items have a much higher chance of getting good enchantments at the enchanting table. You could try using gold items as intermediate materials and then transfer the full set to the item you want. But at first sight, that doesn't seems like a reasonable approach due to the final cost. But who knows... Material’s “enchantability” level: gold (highest, 22) > netherite (15) > diamond (10) > iron (9) > stone/wood (5). ]]

Second, this is also a way to repair your worn-out items with a good set of enchantments and the “too expensive” tag. For example, I removed the “Mending” enchantment from my game because it completely ruins the gameplay. I don’t want to craft armor and tools once, apply the Mending enchantment, and then treat resources and mining, the core gameplay of Minecraft, like boring unnecessary trash. But I also don’t want to spend too much time reworking and re-enchanting armor and tools from scratch. This mod gives me an interesting alternative for preserving my enchantments set. Because, in my opinion, make enchantments set is the main challenge in crafting a good item.

After all, the fine balance between needs expressed as desires and needs expressed as necessity is the core of a happines. What's force you to do something also gives you a push to desire something.

Remarks:

This mod I made primarily for myself, and I'm sharing it because recently I was looking for something like this and couldn't find. Maybe it will be useful to someone. It is quite possible that over time it will go through serious revisions and rebalancing.
This mod was made in MC Creator (for those who cares =)).
This mod may be incompatable with other mods. (Basically, it doesn't mess with anything. It mostly uses vanilla resources and just adds 2 items and some recipes. But I didn't bother checking for compatibility, so keep that in mind.)
This mod works with JEI.
This mod сurrently includes only recipes based on vanilla items (tools, armor, etc). Additional armor, tools, etc. may be added later. However, enchantments added via mods are transferred without any issues. The mechanics are standard; mod don't interfere in attribute transfers, and the resulting book is a completely vanilla item.
For another versions you can ask in comments, if needed. I'll try do my best to make one.
