EnderIO Legacy Darksteel

EnderIO Legacy Darksteel restores and adapts the classic Ender IO Dark Steel upgrade system for Minecraft 1.20.1.

The mod adds Dark Steel, End Steel, and Stellar Alloy armor, tools, weapons, upgrade items, FE-powered behavior, and Smithing Table upgrade installation inspired by the legacy Ender IO Dark Steel system.

What This Mod Adds

  • Dark Steel armor set
  • Dark Steel tools
  • Dark Steel bow
  • End Steel armor set
  • End Steel tools and weapons:
    • The Ender Mk2
    • Ender Pickaxe
    • Ender Axe
    • Ender Bow

Equipment Progression

Armor progression is handled through the Smithing Table:

  • End Steel armor -> Stellar Alloy armor

Tier upgrade recipes preserve item data, including:

  • Custom names
  • Internal inventory data
  • Existing NBT

Ender and Stellar armor upgrade items are crafted from:

  • The completed armor piece
  • Blank Dark Steel Upgrade

For example:

  • Ender Helm + Blank Dark Steel Upgrade -> Ender Helm Upgrade
  • Stellar Helmet + Blank Dark Steel Upgrade -> Stellar Helmet Upgrade

How Upgrades Work

Upgrades are crafted as items first, usually from a Blank Dark Steel Upgrade plus a themed ingredient.

After crafting an upgrade, apply it to compatible equipment in the Smithing Table.

Most upgrades also require XP levels to activate. The XP cost is shown on the upgrade tooltip and in JEI recipe information.

Tiered upgrades must be installed in order. For example:

  • Empowered II requires Empowered I
  • Speed II requires Speed I
  • Inventory II requires Inventory I
  • Elytra requires Glider

Main Difference From Legacy Ender IO

The original 1.12 system used the Dark Steel Upgrade GUI and Dark Anvils to insert, remove, and store upgrades.

This 1.20.1 version simplifies that system:

  • Upgrades are installed through the Smithing Table.
  • Upgrade recipes are visible in JEI.
  • The old multi-slot Dark Steel Upgrade GUI is not used.
  • Pocket Anvil is kept as a portable infinite anvil upgrade.
  • Micro Anvil and Mini Anvil were removed as installable upgrades.
  • Glider and Elytra are treated as a progression line: Glider -> Elytra.
  • Jump has two tiers instead of three:
    • Jump I: higher jump and fall damage protection
    • Jump II: higher jump, fall damage protection, and two extra air jumps

Upgrade List

Empowered

Compatible with most Dark Steel equipment and Ender/Stellar equipment.

Stores FE and lets the item use energy instead of durability or damage. Armor also absorbs part of incoming damage while powered.

  • Empowered I: 100,000 FE, 50% damage absorption
  • Empowered II: 150,000 FE, 60% damage absorption
  • Empowered III: 250,000 FE, 70% damage absorption
  • Empowered IV: 1,000,000 FE, 85% damage absorption
  • Empowered V: available for The Ender and Ender/Stellar equipment

Powered tools gain the official Ender IO mining bonus:

  • +2.0 mining efficiency while the item has Empowered and stored FE

This bonus does not scale by Empowered level.

The Ender Empowered Bonuses

The mod uses Ender IO's existing The Ender sword instead of adding a duplicate sword.

When powered, The Ender-style swords gain:

  • Empowered I: +1 attack damage, +0.40 attack speed
  • Empowered II: +2 attack damage, +0.45 attack speed
  • Empowered III: +3 attack damage, +0.50 attack speed
  • Empowered IV: +4 attack damage, +0.55 attack speed
  • Empowered V: +5 attack damage, +0.60 attack speed

Helmet Upgrades

  • Night Vision: toggleable permanent night vision.
  • Solar I-IV: generates FE in sunlight and charges armor, held items, and inventory tools.
  • Sound Locator: highlights nearby hostile mobs.
  • Padding: muffles nearby sounds.

Chestplate Upgrades

  • Glider: enables controlled gliding.
  • Elytra: upgraded form of Glider; enables Elytra flight.
  • Pocket Anvil: opens a portable infinite anvil.

The Glider toggle key also controls Elytra. If disabled, Elytra flight is disabled too.

Leggings Upgrades

  • Speed I-III: toggleable movement speed boost while moving.
  • Inventory I-III: adds extra storage to Dark Steel, End Steel, and Stellar Alloy leggings.

Boots Upgrades

  • Jump I: increases jump height and can prevent fall damage using FE.
  • Jump II: adds two extra air jumps, for three jumps total.
  • Step Assist: automatically walks up one-block ledges.
  • Flippers: improves swimming movement.

Pickaxe Upgrades

  • Empowered I-V: enables FE storage and powered mining behavior.
  • Explosive I-V: mines extra blocks around the target block.
  • Carpeting: flattens explosive mining into a horizontal layer.
  • Depth: pushes explosive mining forward, away from the player.
  • Penetration I-II: modifies explosive mining reach and shape.
  • Spoon: lets the pickaxe act like a shovel.
  • Direct: sends mined blocks directly into the player inventory.
  • Travel: enables teleport-style travel behavior.

Axe Upgrades

  • Empowered I-V: enables FE storage and powered behavior.
  • Fork: lets the axe act like a hoe.
  • Direct: sends drops directly into the player inventory.

Sword Upgrades

Compatible sword upgrades:

  • Empowered I-V
  • Direct
  • Travel

Supported swords include:

  • Ender IO's original The Ender
  • The Ender Mk2
  • The Ender Mark IV

Bow Upgrades

  • Empowered I-IV on Dark Steel Bow and Ender Bow
  • Empowered V on Ender Bow

Keybinds

Several upgrades can be toggled through the Minecraft Controls menu.

Supported toggleable upgrades include:

  • Night Vision
  • Glider / Elytra
  • Speed
  • Jump
  • Sound Locator

By default, these keybinds may be unbound. Set them manually in the Controls menu.

JEI Support

Upgrade crafting recipes and Smithing Table installation recipes are visible in JEI.

Each Smithing Table recipe shows which upgrade item is applied to which compatible equipment item.

JEI also shows the crafting recipes for:

  • Blank Dark Steel Upgrade
  • Individual Dark Steel upgrades
  • Ender armor upgrade items
  • Stellar armor upgrade items
  • End Steel equipment
  • Stellar Alloy equipment

Dependencies

Requires:

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Ender IO for Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Ender IO's required dependencies/libraries

Recommended:

  • JEI for recipe viewing

Optional, depending on the modpack setup:

  • EnderIO Evolution or another addon/mod that provides Stellar Alloy materials, if your pack does not already provide them
