Enhanced Genetics
Build a laboratory. Discover mob genes. Make their abilities your own.
Enhanced Genetics is a tech mod about augmenting yourself with mob genes. Collect biological samples, process them in machines, breed genes, and inject new abilities into your bloodstream.
Inspired by the gameplay of the 1.7.10 Advanced Genetics mod. Enhanced Genetics is my try for Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge, with old abilities and new ones from mobs introduced after 1.7.10.
From a skin sample to a new ability
- Collect a sample. Right-click a living donor with the Skin Scraper to obtain Skin Scales. Different donors offer different genes.
- Process the sample. Use the DNA Analyser, DNA Extractor, DNA Decrypter and DNA Splitter to turn scales into cells, helices and individual genes.
- Complete a gene. Feed the DNA Breeder Basic Genes or matching genes. More powerful and boss-linked traits require more breeding points.
- Prepare your blood. Collect blood with a Syringe, centrifuge it, combine it with a completed gene in the DNA Combiner, then centrifuge it again.
- Inject and experiment. Use the prepared syringe on a compatible subject. Keep a centrifuged blood backup before taking risks: death removes injected genes.

Abilities to discover
The current version includes 74 ability genes, plus the Basic Gene used in breeding. Examples include:
- Movement: flight, Allay Wings, teleporting, climbing, water breathing, water-style lava swimming, Slow Falling and toggleable Frostwalker.
- Protection and combat: extra hearts, resistance, poison immunity, Venomous Hit, Vampirism, Wind Charged and a channelled Guardian Laser.
- Utility: milk and stew production, shearing wool, riding a genetic bearer, sensing nearby targets, and saving your inventory on death with a temporary penalty.
- Active powers: fireballs, snowballs, spit, potions, fangs, fatigue/darkness auras and more.
Tap V to open ability toggles. Hold V to choose an active ability in the radial menu, then use R to activate it. Hold R for channelled or repeatable abilities. Every key can be rebound, and individual genes can be disabled in the configuration.

A futuristic laboratory
Build a complete production line with powered DNA machines, a Furnace Generator and a Microscope. Machine crafting uses vanilla ingredients and craftable laboratory components.
Turn cells into Cell Bundles, then grow lab-grown meat with species-themed temporary benefits. Carry throwable potions in a Potion Satchel, which stores up to 64 matching potions per slot without changing their normal inventory stack size. An Allay Gene Rocket provides a reusable boost for genetic wings.
Craft the in-game Guidebook with a Book and Nether Quartz for progression, recipes, donors and ability explanations. Optional JEI or REI integration adds machine recipes, scraper drops and ability/food reference pages. Optional Curios support provides equipment slots for the satchel and gene rocket.

Injected mobs and multiplayer
Genes can be injected into living mobs as well as players. Many shared effects, reactions and interactions already work on mobs. Some traits require equipment, compatible behavior or player-specific systems; ** active abilities for mobs are planned for 1.1.0**. The guidebook and ability reference pages explain these limits.
Planned for 1.1.0
- Appropriate injected-mob abilities.
- Rare mobs with random extra genes: a default 1-in-100 chance, config or datapack rules.
These 1.1 features are planned and are not included in 1.0.0r.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.221 or a compatible newer 21.1 build
- Java 21
- JEI, REI and Curios are optional. No required companion mod.
FAQ
Fabric? No Fabric version is planned at the moment.
Will everything from Advanced Genetics be implemented? Mostly. The long-term plan is to recreate the abilities and progression, adapting them to modern Minecraft and expanding them with new ideas. Enhanced Genetics is an original implementation inspired by that gameplay.
What about mobs added after 1.7.10? They are already represented, including traits associated with allays, armadillos, breezes, goats, sniffers and wardens. More can be added through future updates and datapack support.
Does every gene work on every mob? No. Current mob behavior and limitations are documented in-game. Broader mob ability AI is planned for 1.1.0.
Can I configure abilities and gene sources? Yes. Individual abilities can be disabled, and datapacks can customize donor pools, breeding costs and processing recipes.
