Description

💥 Extreme Explosions 2

Ten generations of TNT. Each one bigger, more destructive and more spectacular than the last.

Other TNT mods make a bigger hole. Extreme Explosions 2 puts on a show. Every tier comes with its own effects: fireballs, shockwaves, mushroom clouds, lightning storms, plasma, fire twisters, and finally the earth-shattering TNT Gen X.

It also includes everything from the original Extreme Explosions, so every explosion in your game, from creepers to end crystals, finally looks the part.

🧨 The TNT

Craft your way up from normal TNT to TNT Gen X. Each generation has its own colour and its number in Roman numerals on the side, so you always know what you're about to set off.

TNT Colour What it does Fuse
TNT Red Vanilla power with the Extreme Explosions effects 4 s
TNT Gen II Orange Takes out most of a villager house 4 s
TNT Gen III Yellow Flattens a villager house 4.5 s
TNT Gen IV Lime The house and 3 blocks around it 5 s
TNT Gen V Cyan A 15 block blast with a ground shockwave 5.5 s
TNT Gen VI Blue A crater 20 wide, 5 deep, 5 high 6 s
TNT Gen VII Purple A crater 25 wide, 10 deep, 10 high 6.5 s
TNT Gen VIII Magenta A crater 30 wide, 10 deep, 15 high 7 s
TNT Gen IX Black & red A crater 40 wide, 15 deep, 15 high. Even obsidian breaks 7.5 s
TNT Gen X Shimmering gold A crater 50 wide, 20 deep, 20 high 8 s

From Gen VI upwards, the TNT doesn't just blow a round hole. It tears out a ragged, bowl-shaped crater that rips outward from the blast over about a second, in step with the shockwave. Water and lava pour into the hole, sand and gravel tumble down the sides, and any TNT caught in the blast goes up in a chain reaction.

And yes, it's properly deadly. Hiding behind a wall won't save anything caught inside the crater.

⚡ The Fuse

Lit TNT no longer just flashes white. Every TNT, vanilla included, now:

  • 🔥 Shudders and rattles, gently at first, then more and more violently as the fuse burns down, before it swells and blows
  • ✨ Fizzes and spits a fountain of sparks from its fuse
  • ⚡ Crackles with sparks jumping off its sides, faster and faster towards the end

Gen IX sparks burn an angry red. Gen X sparks burn white-gold.

🌋 The Explosions

Every explosion gets the full Extreme Explosions treatment:

  • A blinding flash and a rolling orange-to-red fireball
  • Sparks, drifting embers and chunks of the ground thrown into the air, some of them on fire
  • A dust ring coloured by whatever ground it went off on
  • Thick black smoke rising into a mushroom cloud
  • Camera shake when you're close

The bigger the TNT, the bigger the show:

  • Gen V+: a ground shockwave racing out across the land
  • Gen VII+: a white condensation ring blooming around the fireball
  • Gen VIII+: deep, rolling thunder you can hear from far away
  • Gen IX+: a screen-whitening flash
  • Gen X: a swelling sphere of light, a pillar of light shooting into the sky, and a wave of energy racing across the land as the ground is torn apart behind it

🌀 Signature Effects

Gens V to IX each have their own signature energy effect:

  • ⚡ Gen V: Static Burst. Cyan electric arcs burst out of the fireball, then static crackles and hops across the ground.
  • 🌀 Gen VI: Plasma Helix. Three ribbons of blue plasma spiral up around the smoke column, throwing off arcs, then burst into sparks at the top.
  • 🌩️ Gen VII: Thunderhead. The mushroom cloud becomes a thunderstorm, flickering with purple lightning that strikes the ground all around the crater.
  • 💫 Gen VIII: Implosion Vortex. Magenta energy is sucked inwards in a whirlpool, then bursts back out with forked lightning. Glowing energy orbs are left hanging in the air, arcing to each other and to the ground.
  • 🔥 Gen IX: Hellstorm. A twister of fire rises out of the crater with red lightning lashing out of it. The ground around the rim splits with glowing magma cracks, and embers rain down from the sky.

🛠️ Recipes

All shaped recipes with the previous TNT in the middle of the crafting table:

  • Gen II to Gen VII: the previous TNT surrounded by 8 gunpowder (Gen II starts from normal TNT)
  • Gen VIII: Gen VII, gunpowder on the sides, blaze powder in the 4 corners
  • Gen IX: Gen VIII, gunpowder on the sides, ghast tears in the 4 corners
  • Gen X: Gen IX, a nether star at the top middle, gunpowder in the other 7 slots

Light them just like normal TNT: flint and steel, fire, redstone, flaming arrows or dispensers.

⚙️ Config

Client (extremeexplosions2-client.toml)

  • Particle density, for slower computers
  • Camera shake on/off and strength
  • Flying debris and lingering smoke on/off
  • Screen flash on/off, if bright flashes bother you
  • Vibrating fuse on/off (off brings back vanilla's flashing)
  • Fuse sparks on/off
  • Signature energy effects on/off

Server (extremeexplosions2-common.toml, or the world's serverconfig folder on newer NeoForge versions)

  • Max generation: cap how strong TNT can get on your server (anything above explodes at the cap)
  • Block drops: choose which tiers drop blocks (big blasts drop nothing by default, to avoid item lag)
  • Blocks per tick: lower it if big craters make your server lag

📦 Installation

  • Install on both client and server
  • ⚠️ Don't install it alongside the original Extreme Explosions. Everything from that mod is already included here (on NeoForge you'll get a clear warning if you try).

Armour and Blast Protection still protect you, and Gen X gives you 8 seconds to run. Use them. 😉
