Fair Fletching

A simple mod for Minecraft that adds a use for Fletching Table.

Using a Fletching Table now opens a fletching menu, where arrows can be "tipped" (upgraded).

The table does not allow crafting basic arrows and this feature is not planned. The regular crafting recipe seems already balanced and arrows can anyway be obtained in cheaper ways such as Villager trades or mob farms.

While many similar mods exist, I consider them either unfair or adding irrelevant content, hence why this mod is named "Fair Fletching".

Recipes

Tipping recipes with potions allow more than one arrow at the same time. They can, however, still be used for smaller amounts of arrows.

Note that while the author consider this fair, this is still cheaper than Vanilla's recipes. Vanilla uses 2 Glowstone Dusts for each Spectral Arrow (but only half an Arrow for some reason) and only allows Lingering Potions, each tipping 8 arrows. This amount, however, likely comes from the limitations of Crafting Table. The mod awards possibility to tip 4 arrows for brewing the Potion, additional 4 for upgrading to a Splash Potion (using Gunpowder), and then additional 8 for upgrading to a Lingering Potion (using Dragon's Breath).

Configuration and extensibility

The mod utilizes a custom recipe type (fair-fletching:arrow_tipping), making the recipes fully customizable through data packs. For example, tipping with splash potions (fair-fletching:tipped_arrows_from_splash) is configured in data/fair-fletching/recipe/tipped_arrows_from_splash.json which, by default, contains:

Compatibility

Mods making potions stackable such as Sensible Stackables are supported; if an ingredient remainder (i.e. empty bottle) is left but slot is still taken by remaining ingredients (i.e. potions), the remainder will be placed in Player's inventory or dropped if there's not enough space for it.

My other mod Adventurous Trinkets is also additionally supported. If it's present, the quiver slot (actually back slot from Trinkets) will be displayed alongside offhand slot in the GUI for easier access to the Quiver/Bundle.

Side Effects

This mod additionally fixes MC-267545 and adds a craft remainder of Empty Bottle to Potions. The latter has no effect for Vanilla recipes, but if a data pack or mod adds a recipe using a Potion, an Empty Bottle will remain in the crafting grid after the craft.
