About
Description
Never dig through 40 chests again. Item Finder remembers what's inside every container you open, and finds it again with one command.
Type /find diamond and every chest you've ever opened that holds diamonds lights up through the
walls — with the exact amount and slot number. Open one, and the matching slot is outlined right
in the chest GUI.
Client-side only. Works on any server, no mod required on the other end.
How it works
1. Open containers like you always do. Every container you open is recorded automatically — position, contents, and slot numbers. No setup, no key to press, no manual scanning.
2. /find <item> searches everything you've seen. Results land in chat, sorted by distance:
[ContainerFinder] 3 hits for "diamond":
- Chest at 41 -12 147: 12x Diamond (slot 21, 7m)
- Barrel at 88 63 -20: 3x Diamond (slot 4, 61m)
- Your inventory: 1x Diamond (slot Hotbar 3)
[ContainerFinder] 2 containers highlighted - /done to stop.
Every hit in your current dimension gets a glowing box, visible through terrain, with a floating label showing the amount and slot. Walk straight to it.
3. Open the container and the slots holding your item get a bright outline in the GUI — so you don't have to hunt across a double chest for slot 21.
4. /done clears the highlights.
Fuzzy search that actually works
/find diamond, /find minecraft:diamond, /find Diamant, or just /find ingot — item IDs and
translated display names are matched, so search in whatever language your game is in. Tab completion
only suggests items you've actually got stored somewhere, so you never search for nothing.
What gets remembered
- Chests, trapped chests, ender chests, barrels
- Shulker boxes
- Hoppers, droppers, dispensers
- Brewing stands
- Furnaces, smokers, blast furnaces
- Crafters
- Your own inventory, tracked continuously — you don't even have to open it, and it works in creative mode too
Data is stored per server address and per singleplayer world, so your survival base and your
anarchy server stash never get mixed up. Files live in config/containerfinder/ as plain readable
JSON.

Honest notes
- Container Finder only knows what you have opened. It does not scan chunks, read block entities you never touched, or see through the server. It's a memory aid, not an x-ray.
- Containers a server opens for you without a right click — plugin menus, villager trading, GUIs from a command — are deliberately skipped, because their position can't be determined reliably.
- Contents are a snapshot from your last visit. If someone else empties the chest,
/findstill lists it until you look inside again. The in-GUI slot highlight always reads live data, so it's correct even in containers you've never opened before. - Crafting tables, anvils, enchanting tables and similar workbenches aren't storage and aren't recorded.
Requirements
