Description

For The Void

Hunt. Adapt. Evolve.

For The Void is an Origins addon that brings evolving Void creatures to Minecraft, beginning with Kha’Zix.

Start as a fragile predator, hunt to unlock new adaptations, and enter a cocoon to transform. Choose between the Assassin, built around isolated targets and ambushes, or the Bruiser, equipped with heavier attacks and permanent health upgrades.

Your evolution is earned through gameplay. Different prey unlock different abilities, and your selected passives determine how you survive.

Your first steps

Select Kha’Zix from the Origins selection screen, then press K to open your evolution menu.

You begin in the Default form with 10 HP — 5 hearts. Your starting abilities include a claw strike and projectile spikes. Leap and natural wings must be unlocked through hunting.

The evolution menu tracks your branch progress, flight progress, growth upgrades, and passive adaptations.

Abilities use the Origins primary, secondary, and tertiary ability keybinds. This page calls them Q, W, and E; check your Controls menu to assign the keys you prefer.

Choose your evolution

Assassin — isolate and ambush

The Assassin rewards careful positioning and attacks against isolated prey.

  • 14 HP — 7 hearts.

  • Longer Q reach and stronger isolated strikes.

  • Additional damage when striking an isolated target from behind.

  • Shorter Q cooldown against isolated targets.

  • Faster W projectiles with a slowing effect.

  • W upgrades that unlock piercing, armor-bypassing damage, and further damage growth.

  • A faster-recharging Leap that grants brief concealment upon landing.

  • Kills reduce the remaining E cooldown.

Unlock the Assassin by earning 1,200 Assassin points, primarily from ranged enemies.

Bruiser — heavy spikes and crushing landings

The Bruiser trades the Assassin’s ambush specialization for stronger defenses and sustained growth.

  • 18 HP — 9 hearts before health upgrades.

  • Additional armor and attack speed.

  • Q damage that scales with each victim’s maximum health.

  • Full Q damage calculations for each enemy caught in its splash.

  • Three spreading W spikes with armor penetration, a small blast, and stronger healing.

  • A damaging E landing that weakens nearby enemies with Sundering.

  • Permanent maximum-health upgrades.

Unlock the Bruiser by earning 1,500 Bruiser points, primarily from melee enemies.

Abilities

Q — Claw Strike

Strike the enemy you are aiming at, with splash damage around the primary target.

Isolation matters. A target must be separated from other living creatures to qualify. Nearby passive animals count too.

When you aim at a valid isolated target within Q range, a purple outline and pulsing isolation ring help you recognize the opening. These indicators are visible only to you. The ring can be disabled in the client configuration.

The Assassin specializes in isolated and rear attacks. The Bruiser calculates its percentage-based damage separately for every victim.

W — Void Spikes

Fire spikes that damage enemies and restore health on a successful hit.

Healing is limited to once per cast, so hitting several enemies does not multiply the healing.

Each form changes how W behaves:

  • Default: two parallel spikes.

  • Assassin: faster spikes with slowing and additional upgrade stages.

  • Bruiser: three spreading spikes, armor penetration, and a small blast.

Spikes follow projectile physics. They fall more sharply after their initial flight distance, embed in blocks, and drop if their supporting block is removed.

E — Leap and natural wings

E has two progression milestones:

  1. Earn 50 flight points, then open K and evolve Leap.

  2. Reach 1,200 total flight points, then evolve Natural Wings.

Qualifying flying creatures grant one flight point per kill. Examples include bats, chickens, bees, parrots, phantoms, and several flying hostile mobs.

Leap launches you from the ground. Its distance, cooldown, and landing effect depend on your form.

  • Default: reduced fall damage for the Leap landing.

  • Assassin: brief concealment and a movement bonus on landing.

  • Bruiser: an impact that damages nearby enemies.

Assassin and Bruiser Leap landings are protected from fall damage. Deploying wings cancels the Leap’s landing protection and landing reward. Folding the wings again does not restore them.

Natural wings allow Elytra-style gliding and firework flight. Ordinary Elytra items remain restricted.

Grow beyond your first evolution

Choosing a branch is only the beginning.

After evolving, earn additional points from the enemies associated with your branch:

  • Assassin growth upgrades W.

  • Bruiser growth increases maximum health by 4 HP — 2 hearts — per upgrade.

The first growth upgrade costs 1,000 points. Each following upgrade costs 50% more, rounded up.

For example, ranged enemies such as Skeletons with bows, Pillagers, and Blazes contribute toward Assassin progression. Melee enemies such as Zombies, Spiders, Vindicators, and Ravagers contribute toward Bruiser progression.

Open K → Your upgrades, check the relevant progress bar, and activate the upgrade when you have enough points. Completing an evolution takes 20 seconds inside a cocoon.

Branch growth and flight progression are separate from your passive slots.

Build your own adaptations

Unlocking a passive makes it available to select. It does not activate automatically.

You can purchase up to five passive points, with each point costing 30 experience levels. These are levels, not 30 individual XP points.

Choose your loadout in the K menu. Click an occupied selection slot to remove that passive from your draft, then Save and confirm.

Changing your loadout takes 20 seconds in a cocoon, with no meat cost. Your previous selection remains active until the transformation finishes.

Available passives

Adaptation Benefit Unlock requirement
Night Vision See clearly in darkness. Defeat 10 bats.
Night Hunter Gain movement speed in darkness; the bonus depends on your form. Defeat 20 spiders.
Weapon Adaptation Remove the held-item melee penalty and use bows and crossbows. Defeat 100 Illagers or Guard Villagers in total.
Omnivore Eat plant foods as well as meat. Available from the beginning.
Pheromones Arthropods leave you alone unless you attack them. Defeat 100 arthropods.
Armor Adaptation Improve your branch’s heavy-armor rules. Defeat the Ender Dragon.
Large Lungs Hold your breath underwater three times longer. Defeat 100 creatures classified in Minecraft’s water mob group.
Cricket Legs Step up full blocks and gain Jump Boost II. Defeat 10 rabbits or goats in total.
Fins Swim 60% faster. Defeat 10 Guardians or 1 Elder Guardian.
Humanoid Disguise yourself after 30 seconds without attacking or taking damage. Defeat 30 Villagers or Guard Villagers in total.
Sunlight Adaptation Remove your sunlight damage and associated debuffs. Accumulate more than 20 real minutes exposed to sunlight.

Sunlight exposure is cumulative: entering shade pauses your progress instead of resetting it.

When Guard Villagers is installed, each guard kill contributes one point to both Weapon Adaptation and Humanoid.

A predator with weaknesses

Power comes with restrictions.

“The daylight… it burns!”

Direct sunlight deals 1 HP every two seconds and applies:

  • Hunger I

  • Slowness I

  • Weakness I

A helmet prevents the damage, but the debuffs remain. Selecting Sunlight Adaptation removes these penalties.

Food, equipment, and survival

Kha’Zix cannot sleep and builds exhaustion 50% faster.

Without the corresponding adaptations:

  • Your diet is restricted to meat.

  • Bows and crossbows are unavailable.

  • Held-item melee attacks deal reduced damage.

  • Armor above iron defense imposes a movement penalty.

Shields and ordinary Elytra items remain restricted.

With Armor Adaptation selected, Featherweight can reduce the Assassin’s heavy-armor penalty or remove the Bruiser’s penalty on armor above diamond defense.

Unwelcome in villages

Villagers fear you and refuse to trade. Iron Golems and supported Guard Villagers become hostile.

With Humanoid selected, avoid attacking or receiving damage for 30 seconds to become disguised. Environmental damage, including fire and falls, interrupts that peaceful period too.

Concealment is not perfect

Kha’Zix can conceal itself in suitable environments, but attacking and incoming attacks can reveal it.

Origin concealment also applies Ghost, a mild debuff that briefly exposes a cosmetic afterimage every ten seconds. Other players can see the silhouette, although the effect itself does not remove your invisibility.

Ghost ends when your origin concealment ends. Drinking an ordinary invisibility potion does not activate it.

The cocoon

Evolution takes time, and the cocoon does not make you invulnerable.

Transformations take 20 seconds. The cocoon has animated roots, a moving opening, and purple fluid particles.

Dying inside it cancels the pending transformation and removes 25% of your branch points and growth. Flight progression is retained.

To change an evolved branch, use Reset first. Branch Reset requires 10 identical vanilla meat items in your offhand and another 20-second cocoon. It clears branch growth while preserving your wing progression, purchased passive points, passive selections, and passive unlock progress.

Installation

For The Void currently targets Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.

Install the required dependencies listed on the download page, including Origins Forge, Apothic Attributes, and Caelus. Origins Extra Keybinds (Forge) by RadonCoding provides the additional ability key used for E.

Guard Villagers is optional.

For multiplayer, install For The Void and its required dependencies on both the server and clients, using matching versions.

Beta development

For The Void is still in active development. Balance, visuals, and compatibility will continue to improve through updates and player feedback.

Kha’Zix is the first playable Void creature. More are planned.

If you report a problem, include your mod version, Minecraft/Forge version, what happened, and a crash report or log when relevant.
