Smelt, alloy, cast, forge and quench: eleven metals and real smithing

Fabric · Forge · Minecraft 1.21.1 · version 0.1.0

🔥 About

Forge And Works turns metalworking into a craft. Ore no longer goes into a furnace: you build a metal forge, melt the ore into molten metal, cast it into molds, forge the parts on a smithing anvil and quench the hot result for extra durability.

Eleven metals, from tin to adamantium, each with its own tools, armor and place in the world. Fully translated into English and Russian.

🌟 Features

⛏️ Ores and Metals

  • 8 ores in the overworld: tin, silver, lithium, cobalt, titanium, tungsten, mithril and adamantium. The more precious the metal, the deeper and rarer it is.
  • Ores drop dirty ore: it does not smelt in a furnace, only in the metal forge.
  • 3 alloys: bronze, steel and rose gold have no ore, you mix them in the forge.
  • Every metal has an ingot, nugget, sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, 4 armor pieces and a bucket of molten metal.

🧱 The Metal Forge

A 4×4 multiblock, 4 blocks tall: forge bricks, forge glass, drains and a controller. If something is wrong, the controller tells you which block and where.

  • Three melting slots, any furnace fuel, a 10 000 mB tank of one metal at a time.
  • The drain fills and empties buckets; hoppers work on every side.

⚗️ Alloys

Put all components into the melting slots and the forge melts them together:

Alloy Components Result
Bronze 3 copper ingots + 1 tin ingot 360 mB
Rose Gold 3 gold ingots + 1 copper ingot 360 mB
Steel 2 iron ingots + 1 coal or charcoal 180 mB

🫗 Casting

Place a foundry or a mold in front of the drain and click the drain: ingots, nuggets, blade blanks and pickaxe heads. Casts cool down before you can take them.

🔨 Forging and Quenching

  • The smithing anvil turns blanks into finished items with 3 to 5 hammer blows. The hammer must match the metal: stone, iron, diamond or netherite.
  • A finished item leaves the anvil red-hot for 30 seconds. Dip it into the quenching bucket in time for up to +25% durability and +1 damage.
  • Repair plates restore 25% durability to armor and shields and keep enchantments.

🗡️ Special Weapons and Shields

Item Ability
Tungsten Warhammer Ignores 30% of armor, heavy knockback
Silver Spear +4 damage to the undead, +1 block reach
Mithril Rapier 15% chance of a critical thrust
Cobalt Saber Stronger sweeping attacks
Steel Dagger Very fast strikes

5 metal shields raise at different speeds; adamantium knocks the attacker back, tungsten is heavy and slows you down.

🪵 Racks and the Smith's Handbook

  • Sword racks hold three swords, hammer racks two hammers, shown right in the world.
  • The Smith's Handbook (book + iron ingot) explains every mechanic, Tinkers' Construct style, with a layer-by-layer forge diagram.

🎮 Getting Started

  1. Craft the Smith's Handbook from a book and an iron ingot.
  2. Mine some ore and craft forge bricks, forge glass and a forge controller.
  3. Build the 4×4 forge, add a drain and a mold in front of it.
  4. Melt, cast, then forge the parts on the smithing anvil.
  5. Quench the hot item in the quenching bucket.

All recipes are visible in JEI and EMI.

❓ FAQ

Do I need it on both server and client? Yes, on both sides.
NeoForge? No, Fabric and Forge only.
Can I use it in modpacks? Yes, it is MIT-licensed.
Why does my furnace not smelt the new ores? By design: dirty ore melts only in the metal forge.
