About

Description

An add-on mod for the Genetic Animals mod that allows you to use a vanilla book to receive a record of the various genes the animal possesses, similar to genetic tests you would see in mods like Realistic Horse Genetics or Simply Cats.

This is an optional tool for people - while it won't be present in the main mod you are free to use this in your singleplayer worlds or even your servers. Please keep in mind it will only work on servers if it is present on both the client and server.

Please check the wiki for more detailed information on the individual genes per animal.

Planned Features:

- Genetic Bettas gene testing support (currently in V1.0+)
- Color genes testing module (currently in V1.0+).
- Body proportion genes testing module (currently in development for V2.0).
- Production genes testing module.
- Config options to enable/disable which testing modules you want active, server config takes priority (currently in development for V2.0).
- Config options to enable filters, which will be disabled by default, such as a phenotype filter where the gene book will only tell you what gene is expressed for each gene locus to add back a bit of challenge. As before, server config takes priority.

Not Planned:

- Pedigrees - animals do not store enough data for me to pull entire family trees.
- Breed certification - breeds are just animals that spawn with narrower gene ranges, there is nothing in an animal's data that says what breed it is, even when spawned in a village pen or brought by the wandering trader. While I could check to see if an animal's genes falls within an allowed range, that has the risk of throwing false positives which would make such a tool worthless.

I create datapacks, resource packs, scripts and mods that add compat between GA and other mods. If you find this mod useful, please let me know or even give me a tip on Ko-Fi. It shows me that tools like this are appreciated and motivates me to make more!

 A big thank you to:

- VespeneGas for their help in coding the more complex portions of the mod. The mod wouldn't have gotten this far without their knowledge.

- Moki for creating the Genetic Animals mod, for all her help in dechipering the genetics, for proof reading all of the documentation, and for helping with bug testing. Her feedback and advice really helped me when I got stuck.

- Ren for proof reading the wiki, bug testing, and letting me use their many useful spreadsheets of genetic data to help speed up the gene mapping process.

- Milo for proof reading the wiki as well as bug testing. I really appreciated all the help!
