Forge • NeoForge • Fabric • Quilt | 1.12.2 → 26.3
Mine nine blocks with every swing. Hammers OG adds hammers and excavators in stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite. A hammer mines a 3x3 square of stone and ores, an excavator digs a 3x3 square of dirt, sand and gravel, always on the face you hit: walls, floors and ceilings. Tunnels, quarries and terraforming go nine times faster, and it still plays fair: your tool wears for each block, enchantments work, and anything that shouldn't break stays put.

A diamond hammer opens a 3x3 tunnel, one square through the other.

| Tool | Digs | Uses | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hammer | Everything a pickaxe digs: stone, ores, deepslate, netherrack… | 3x the pickaxe of its material | 0.6x the pickaxe |
| Excavator | Everything a shovel digs: dirt, grass, sand, gravel, clay, snow… | 3x the shovel of its material | 0.6x the shovel |
Each one harvests what the pickaxe or shovel of its material harvests, takes the same enchantments (Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, Mending) and repairs in an anvil with the same material. Excavators still make dirt paths with a right click. Netherite tools don't burn in lava.

Hammer: five of the material around a stick, one stick below.

Excavator: three of the material around a stick, one stick below.

Stone (cobblestone, blackstone or cobbled deepslate), iron, gold and diamond all work the same way. Netherite tools are upgraded from diamond ones at a smithing table, like vanilla tools:

You'll find them all in the Tools & Utilities tab in creative.

- ⛏️ 3x3 on the face you hit: look at a wall and it mines the wall, look down and it digs the floor, look up and it clears the ceiling.
- 🧱 Only what the tool is made for: a hammer leaves dirt alone, an excavator leaves stone alone, and a stone hammer won't waste diamond ore it can't harvest.
- 🧍 Sneak to mine a single block: for careful work next to your builds.
- ✨ Enchantments work on every block: Fortune multiplies the ores of the whole square, Silk Touch keeps all nine blocks whole.
- 📦 One pile of drops: everything the square drops, experience included, lands where you mined instead of scattering.
- 🛡️ Hard blocks are left alone: blocks much harder than the one you mine (obsidian next to stone) and blocks with contents (furnaces, chests, spawners, shulker boxes) are skipped.
- 🔧 Your tool never breaks: the square stops at the tool's last use, so you can repair it.
- 🤝 Plays nice: every block is broken as if you broke it yourself, so tool wear, statistics and land-claim or protection mods all work.

An iron excavator digs a pit, nine blocks at a time.

Everything can be changed in config/hammersog.properties (created on the first start, with a comment on each line):

- Install it on the client and the server: it adds items, so both sides need it. In single player just add it to your mods.
- 1.12.2 has no netherite, so it gets stone, iron, gold and diamond tools.
- Works with Sodium, Iris and shader packs (the screenshots below use Complementary Reimagined).
- Every version is tested in-game before release (walls, floors and side faces, ores the tool can and can't harvest, hard blocks and furnaces in the square, sneaking, the wrong block for the tool, a nearly broken tool, Silk Touch and the drop pile), with the result checked on the server, and boots on a dedicated server.
- MIT License: use it in any modpack.
