Five lives. One final death.

Hardcore Lives transforms Minecraft survival into a more forgiving — but still dangerous — Hardcore experience.

Instead of having your entire adventure end after a single mistake, every player receives a limited number of lives. You can die, learn from your mistakes and continue your journey...

But those chances won't last forever.

Once your lives reach zero, your survival run is over.

❤️ THE LIFE SYSTEM

By default, every player starts with:

5 Lives

Every real death costs one life.

5 → 4 → 3 → 2 → 1 → 0

As long as you have at least one life remaining, you can respawn and continue your adventure.

But when that counter reaches zero:

💀 FINAL DEATH

You are moved into Spectator Mode.

You can explore the world and look back at everything you built, but your survival run has ended.

Hardcore Lives also remembers this state.

A player with 0 lives cannot simply leave the world, change its game mode and return alive to bypass the final death. When Hardcore Lives is active, zero lives means Spectator Mode.

Zero lives means zero lives.

🖥️ HARDCORE LIFE HUD

Hardcore Lives includes its own visual life HUD, using Hardcore-style hearts to display your remaining lives while you play.

As lives disappear, the HUD makes your situation increasingly obvious.

When you're down to your final chance, the last remaining heart can blink, making that final life impossible to ignore.

The HUD is configurable, including its position, vertical offset, heart size and spacing.

🍎 ENCHANTED GOLDEN APPLES = ANOTHER CHANCE

Finding an Enchanted Golden Apple — the legendary Notch Apple — just became even more valuable.

Eating one while playing in a Hardcore Lives world gives you:

❤️ +1 LIFE

The extra life is added to your life counter, up to the configured maximum number of lives.

This transforms one of Minecraft's rarest treasures into something even more valuable:

A second chance at survival.

👥 MULTIPLAYER — INDIVIDUAL LIVES

Every player has their own life counter.

One player's mistakes don't automatically consume somebody else's lives.

One friend could have:

While another is desperately surviving with:

And that's where Hardcore Lives' multiplayer mechanics become especially interesting.

🤝 GIVE YOUR LIFE TO ANOTHER PLAYER

Players can transfer their own lives to somebody else using:

/hlives giveLife <player> [amount]

This is a real transfer.

You lose the lives. They receive them.

You cannot give yourself lives or transfer more lives than you actually have, and the receiving player cannot exceed the configured maximum.

Even more importantly:

💀 You can bring a fallen friend back.

If a player has suffered their final death and is in Spectator Mode with zero lives, receiving another life allows them to return to the adventure.

Would you sacrifice one of your last lives to save a friend?

✨ REVIVE PLAYERS

Server hosts/operators also have access to:

/hlives revive <player>

This gives the selected player exactly 1 life.

If they've already suffered their final death and are in Spectator Mode, they're returned to Survival Mode.

⚙️ SERVER / OP COMMANDS

Hardcore Lives provides administration commands for world hosts and server operators.

/hlives add <player> [amount]

Adds lives to a player.

/hlives remove <player> [amount]

Removes lives from a player.

/hlives revive <player>

Revives a player with exactly one life.

/hlives mod on

Enables Hardcore Lives for the current world.

/hlives mod off

Disables Hardcore Lives for the current world.

Administrative commands require the appropriate permissions.

📖 PLAYER COMMANDS

/hlives help

Displays information about Hardcore Lives and its commands.

/hlives giveLife <player> [amount]

Transfers your own lives to another player.

🌍 WORLD SELECTOR INTEGRATION

Hardcore Lives integrates directly into Minecraft's world selection screen.

Hardcore Lives worlds display their special state directly in the world list:

Hardcore Lives ON

This lets you identify Hardcore Lives worlds before entering them.

🎮 CHANGE WORLD GAME MODE

Hardcore Lives also extends the world selection interface with controls for managing a selected world's game mode.

You can change a world's game mode directly from the interface instead of manually editing world files.

The mod handles the saved world settings and refreshes the world list after making the change.

💾 PERSISTENT LIVES & FINAL DEATH

Your lives persist between sessions.

Closing Minecraft doesn't restore them.

Restarting the game doesn't reset them.

And final death cannot simply be bypassed by changing the world's game mode.

If Hardcore Lives is active and you have:

0 LIVES

your final-death state is enforced.

0 Lives → Spectator Mode

🩸 INCAPACITATED COMPATIBILITY

Hardcore Lives is compatible with Incapacitated.

The two mods can work together to create an even deeper survival experience.

Hardcore Lives understands the difference between being incapacitated/downed and actually suffering a final death.

Being knocked down through Incapacitated does not have to immediately mean losing one of your precious Hardcore Lives.

Instead, the two systems complement each other:

❤️ Continue with your Hardcore Lives

But if the situation becomes a real death:

SPECTATOR MODE

This creates multiple layers of survival.

You might be knocked down.

Your friends might still save you.

You might survive the encounter without consuming one of your limited Hardcore Lives.

But when death truly arrives, Hardcore Lives still has the final word.

Incapacitated adds another opportunity to survive.

Hardcore Lives determines how many true deaths you have left.

📦 INCAPACITATED IS OPTIONAL

Even though Hardcore Lives supports Incapacitated:

You DO NOT need Incapacitated to play Hardcore Lives.

It's optional.

Players who want the additional downed/revival system can install Incapacitated, while everyone else can enjoy Hardcore Lives completely independently.

📦 NO REQUIRED GAMEPLAY DEPENDENCIES

Hardcore Lives works on its own.

There are no additional gameplay mods that you must install to use the Hardcore Lives system.

Optional compatible mods such as Incapacitated can enhance the experience, but they are not required.
