Description
Hearth Trail
Bind a compass to a campfire. Follow the sparks home.
Hearth Trail is a small survival navigation mod for Minecraft Java 1.21.1. Craft a Hearth Compass, sneak-use it on a lit campfire, then use it in the air to reveal a short trail of sparks toward the saved position.
Features
- One craftable tool, with one destination stored in each compass.
- Normal and soul campfires. Name your compass in an anvil or lend it to a friend.
- Private particles, distance feedback and an arrival message.
- Configurable cooldown, particle count, trail length, sounds and coordinate display.
- Datapack support for anchor blocks and crafting recipes.
- No world generation required. English and Spanish translations.
- MIT licensed: modpack inclusion is welcome.
Crafting
Use a crafting table with 3 copper ingots, 1 amethyst shard and 1 normal compass.
| Empty | Amethyst shard | Empty |
| Copper ingot | Compass | Copper ingot |
| Empty | Copper ingot | Empty |

How to use
- Hold the Hearth Compass and sneak + right-click a lit campfire to save its position.
- Walk away and right-click in the air to reveal the sparks. Repeat while travelling; the default cooldown is 2 seconds.
- Rebind at another campfire to change the saved destination.
The trail shows a straight direction, including height. Find your own safe path around walls, cliffs and lava. It does not teleport you or calculate a route. The item icon is static. The saved position remains if the campfire is removed. Guidance works within the destination dimension, and normal inventory death rules apply.
Installation
Minecraft Java 1.21.1 and Java 21. Install only the file matching your loader, on both client and server.
- Forge: 52.1.0 or later in the 52.x branch.
- NeoForge: 21.1.209 or later in the 21.1.x branch.
- Fabric: Loader 0.16.14 or later, plus Fabric API 0.116.6+1.21.1 or a compatible newer build for 1.21.1.
Server settings: config/hearthtrail.properties. Operators can run /hearthtrail reload; anyone can use /hearthtrail for help.
Early builds — 0.1.1
Forge is released as beta. Fabric and NeoForge are experimental alpha builds. Forge startup and basic single-player use have been tested. Fabric and NeoForge have passed compilation and automated tests; in-game testing is still pending for those variants. Multiplayer compatibility needs further testing. Version 0.1.1 fixes the Forge startup issue in 0.1.0.
