Description
Helpful Villagers (1.12.2)
(https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/helpful-villagers - oryginal 1.7.10 version)
Helpful Villagers completely revitalizes your Minecraft villages, turning them into fully autonomous, working communities! Originally created by WeaselNinja for 1.7.10, this mod has been faithfully backported and expanded. Villagers are no longer idle traders; they gather resources, construct buildings, fight monsters, and drive a dynamic local economy.
11 Unique Professions
Villagers can be assigned to specialized roles, each driven by intricate custom AI:
- Regular: General citizens who can be trained into other professions.
- - Lumberjack: Seeks out trees, chops them down, and automatically replants saplings - now remembers stumps it missed and replants them once saplings arrive.
- - Miner: Digs intelligent mineshafts and extracts valuable ores, reworked this update to dig in place with a smarter, less wasteful pattern.
- - Farmer: Tills soil, plants seeds, and harvests mature crops.
- - Fisherman: (WIP) Catches fish using a fully custom fishing hook and bobber mechanic.
- - Rancher: (WIP) Breeds and herds animals, gathering drops.
- - Builder: Constructs new structures or demolishes old ones using a unique construction fence boundary system - now with a ghost preview when placing a job and a bill-of-materials view in the construction GUI.
- - Merchant: (WIP) Manages player bank accounts and handles bartering.
- - Soldier: Melee defenders utilizing a redesigned combat system. They use shields to block attacks and intelligently ignore creepers to prevent village damage.
- - Archer: Ranged defenders with proper bow-drawing animations and smart kiting mechanics.
- - Cleric: The ultimate support unit. Clerics use brewing stands and enchanting tables to aid the village dynamically.
How To Play
1. Talk to a villager
Right-click any villager to open its dialog. From there you can:
- Follow Me / Stop Following - have the villager follow you around.
- - Inventory - check what the villager is carrying.
- - Change Profession - open the profession picker (see below).
- - Give Nickname - name your favorite villager.
- - A profession-specific action: Trade (unemployed villagers), Crafting (most professions), Barter (Merchant), Guard Villager (Soldier/Archer), or Construction (Builder).
2. Assign professions
Open Change Profession to pick from all 11 roles. A profession only becomes selectable once its Guild Hall exists somewhere in your village - until then the button is greyed out with a "Build Guild Hall To Unlock" tooltip.
3. Register a Guild Hall with the new Guild Post
This update replaces the old item-frame-on-a-door trick with a dedicated Guild Post block:
- Craft a Guild Post from 6 wooden planks + 1 book + 1 iron ingot.
- 2. Place it inside a building within your village's bounds.
- 3. Right-click it to open the profession picker and assign it a job - that building is now the base for that profession: villagers store loot there, craft there, and guards resupply gear from its chests.
- 4. Break the post to remove the hall, or place a new one to reassign it to a different profession.
Existing worlds keep working - old item-frame halls are migrated automatically the first time you load the save, no action needed.
4. Take charge of a village: WILD vs PLAYER
By default every village runs itself (**WILD mode**): it self-staffs with defenders, a Cleric, farmers and a merchant, all using indestructible starter gear - no player input required, kept lightweight for performance.
Want the full simulation - all 11 professions, a real crafting economy, destructible gear? Craft a Nexus (8 emeralds + 1 diamond block), place it inside the village, and right-click it to become **Mayor**. As Mayor you can:
- override how many villagers work each profession, from the Nexus GUI;
- - manually reassign any villager's profession yourself;
- - give your village's crafting queue priority.
Break the Nexus to hand the village back to WILD auto-management.
What's new in this update
- Guild Post block replaces item frames as the way to register and reassign guild halls - old worlds auto-migrate, no manual fixing needed.
- - Miner rework - villagers dig in place with a smarter, less wasteful mining pattern.
- - Lumberjack remembers stumps it couldn't replant and finishes the job once saplings are available.
- - Builder - ghost preview when placing a construction job, plus a bill-of-materials view in the construction GUI.
- - Smarter anti-stuck watchdog and pathing fixes across all professions.
- - New per-profession Guild Post textures and an updated Nexus texture.
- - Assorted stability fixes (guard resupply, builder restock, network validation).
Advanced Combat & Support AI
- Smart Guard Resupply: Guards will not fight to the death blindly. If their health drops below 50%, or if they lack a weapon, armor, or arrows, they will retreat to their Guild Hall. There, they deposit their gathered loot and intelligently equip gear directly from the guild chests (even knowing which armor slots to fill).
- - Cleric Mechanics: Clerics convert mob drops into "essence". They use this essence to:
- - Heal: Throw Instant Health & Regen splash potions at villagers below 40% health (Costs 2 essence).
- - Cleanse: Strip negative potion effects from villagers, accompanied by happy particles (Costs 3 essence).
- - Bless: Once the village guards achieve kill milestones (15, 50, 100 kills), the Cleric will fully repair and enchant the guards' weapons and armor up to power level 30!
Village Infrastructure & Economy (WIP)
- Guild Halls: Registered with a craftable Guild Post block (see "How To Play" above) - right-click to assign a profession, and villagers of that profession will store, craft and resupply from the chests inside its radius.
- - Dynamic Economy: The village features a fully dynamic, localized economy. Upon initialization, the mod scans the village bounds to estimate local resource abundance. It then cross-references this with crafting recipes to dynamically generate fair prices for every item, which fluctuate based on supply and demand. Players can even deposit and withdraw money from their personal village bank accounts!
