About

Description

Tired of chasing XP orbs around? With this mod, experience orbs home in on the nearest player within 64 blocks. They pop out of a kill one at a time, swing up and off to the side, then curve in and get absorbed the moment they reach you, leaving a rainbow trail behind them.

This is an unofficial port of HomingExpOrbs by BlackoutRoulette, originally made for Forge 1.12.2. All credit for the idea and the original behaviour goes to them. This version is a full rewrite for modern Fabric, using the same tuning as the original.

Features

  • Orbs seek out the nearest player within 64 blocks.
  • Orbs from one kill come out as a stream, every 3 to 5 ticks, instead of one big clump.
  • Each orb arcs up and sideways before curving in, just like the original.
  • Orbs fly through blocks, so they never get stuck behind a wall.
  • Orbs get absorbed instantly, several per tick, so a big pile of XP doesn't make you wait.
  • A rainbow particle trail follows every homing orb.
  • If you die, leave, switch to spectator or change dimension, the orbs go back to normal.

Server-side only

The mod runs entirely on the server. On a multiplayer server, only the server needs it and players can join with a plain Fabric client. In singleplayer, just install it like any other mod.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.3
  • Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer
  • Fabric API
  • Java 25

Differences from the original

  • Server-side only, so players don't need it installed.
  • The trail uses the vanilla spell particle instead of a custom one.
  • Trail particles are capped per tick so XP farms don't flood the network.
  • Orbs with nobody in range behave like normal orbs instead of hovering in place.
  • Orbs passing through thick walls far from a player can wobble a little, because vanilla pushes stuck orbs out of blocks.
