Description
Is This the BOSS?
A highly configurable Minecraft mod designed to introduce damage caps, DPS limits, and a "refresh" mechanism for bosses. The damage caps and DPS limits prevent bosses from being instantly killed, which would otherwise allow players to completely ignore their mechanics and skills. The "refresh" mechanism stops players from whittling down a boss through repeated respawning and corpse‑running. This mod is ideal for modpack authors and server administrators looking to enhance their PvE experience.
Features
Automatic Boss Detection: Any entity with a maximum health that meets a specified threshold (default: 100 health, configurable) is automatically recognised as a boss. However, entities on the blacklist will not be treated as bosses, while entities on the whitelist are forced to be bosses regardless of their health. Both blacklist and whitelist are configurable.
Refresh: When all players leave the boss's aggro range, the boss will "refresh" – either fully heal or respawn (configurable, default is to fully heal).
DPS Quota: Limits overall damage per second to a percentage of the boss's maximum health (default: 6%), preventing players from quickly burning down the boss.
Single‑Hit Cap: Limits any single hit to a percentage of the boss's maximum health (default: 10%), preventing one‑shot kills. Special weapons can be added via the configuration file to have higher single‑hit caps and DPS quotas.
Customisable Weapon Limits: Special weapons can be defined in the configuration file to have higher single‑hit caps and DPS quotas than ordinary weapons (default entries include the Netherite Sword and the Glass Sword from the Twilight Forest mod).
Anti‑Zerg Refresh (Multiplayer): When any player dies within the boss's aggro range, the boss will be refreshed. This feature is disabled by default.
Specific Boss Tuning: Absolute point‑based single‑hit caps and DPS limits can be set for specific entities (e.g., 35 single‑hit cap and 20 DPS for the Ender Dragon), instead of relying on the default percentage of the boss's maximum health.
Phase Transition Support: Entities with multiple phases (e.g., Stage 1 → Stage 2) can be defined in the configuration. The mod will automatically recognise and support modded bosses that have phases, ensuring that after a refresh the boss correctly reverts to its first phase.
Damage Type Exemptions: Specific damage types can be exempted from single‑hit and DPS caps via configuration (defaults include `minecraft:out_of_world` and `minecraft:generic_kill`), preventing game freezes or allowing adjustments for special items.
Configuration
This mod is extremely flexible. All settings – including health thresholds, damage percentages, range modifiers, item IDs, and entity IDs – can be easily adjusted in the server‑side configuration file (`config/is_this_the_boss-common.toml`). You can fine‑tune every aspect of boss fights to create exactly the experience you desire.
