Description
🍷 森罗物语:酒商(Kaleidoscope Wine Merchant)
Every bottle's quality finally shows — a new "Wine Merchant" villager who pays by brew quality.
Kaleidoscope Wine Merchant is an addon for Kaleidoscope Tavern. It does one thing: it adds a Wine Merchant to your village, and he pays according to the quality of the drink you brewed.
From placing the counter and waiting for a villager to take the job, to dropping a bottle into the trade slot and watching the emeralds change with its quality — that whole loop is the mod.
🧑🌾 Appearance
What the merchant looks like, and why he looks that way.
His appearance is a recolour of the vanilla villager texture: a blue chaperon hat with a gold brim and a brown robe, aiming for the feel of a medieval travelling trader. The hat is what sets him apart from an ordinary villager at a glance.
📋 Overview
- Core loop: Brew → place a Wine Merchant Counter → a villager takes the job → trade by quality
- Key features: six quality tiers, a pool of 65 items, the Wine Merchant Counter block, in-game OP commands
- Requires: Kaleidoscope Tavern
🍷 The Merchant
A villager who prices by quality, and everything he will handle.
Getting one
- Craft a Wine Merchant Counter (8 planks around 1 barrel, the same shape as a vanilla chest or barrel recipe)
- Place it in your village
- A nearby unemployed villager will walk over and take the job
- Right-click him to trade
Like every vanilla profession, the merchant has five levels (Novice → Apprentice → Journeyman → Expert → Master). Higher levels handle more valuable drinks.
What he buys
66 items can enter the trade pool:
- 40 wines: wine, ice wine, vodka, whiskey, brandy, rum, champagne, Maotai, Lafite … (14 from Kaleidoscope Tavern, 26 from the optional Kaleidoscope World Liquor)
- 20 cocktails: Mojito, Godfather, Bloody Mary, Long Island Iced Tea, Piña Colada …
- 6 drinks: watermelon juice, cola, tonic water, iced black tea, sour plum drink, cool iced black tea
Only wines are bought by default. Buying drinks and buying cocktails are both off until you enable them in the config. For example, I roughly classified both Molotov and kvass as wine, so they are included in trades by default. If you think that's not rigorous enough, you can turn it off (admittedly, it's not rigorous).
💰 Pricing
Each of the six quality tiers has its own price, or you can switch to a flat price.
The six tiers
- 1 — Undrinkable (not bought by default)
- 2 — Inferior
- 3 — Common
- 4 — Fine
- 5 — Crafted
- 6 — Vintage
Default prices
Default prices scale with the number of brewing ingredients: a 1-ingredient drink uses the base price, and every extra ingredient adds +1 emerald to all six tiers.
- Wine, Ice Wine — 1 · 1
- Sweet Berry Wine, Vodka — 2 · 2
- Maotai, cocktails — 3 · 3
- Cool Iced Black Tea — 4 · 4
Every price — each item, each tier — is individually configurable.
Two modes
- BY_QUALITY (default): pays a different amount depending on the drink's actual quality
- FLAT: ignores quality entirely and always pays the Common tier price
You can also just fill all six tiers of an item with the same number to get a uniform price.
Optional features
⚠️ These two features are fairly rough and may slightly affect the experience when enabled. They were added on a "someone might want this" basis and have not been carefully balance-tested — with both off (the default) nothing about the base gameplay changes. Feel free to ignore them.
Wine tiers
Splits wines into three tiers — tier 1 appears only at merchant levels 1–2, tier 2 at 3–4, tier 3 at 5. A smaller pool makes it easier to roll the drinks you want. The default grouping is a rough split by ingredient count, which may not match how you value each drink; you can edit each tier's list.
Level appraisal
Makes a lower-level merchant pay less for drinks above his own level (15% off per tier by default, never below 10% of the base price). The discount rate is configurable. It conflicts with FLAT mode; when both are on, uniform pricing wins.
Vinegar
Vinegar uses bulk exchange by default: 4 bottles for 1 emerald, ignoring quality. Turn that off and vinegar uses the same six-tier pricing as everything else.
🧱 Counter
A new block that serves as the merchant's job site.
- Craft: 8 planks + 1 barrel
- Mining: behaves like a vanilla crafting table (mineable by hand, faster with an axe)
- Creative tab: appears in the Kaleidoscope Tavern creative tab
⚙️ Configuration
Everything is adjustable from the in-game config screen — no need to edit files by hand:
- Trade pool — toggle each of the 65 items on or off
- Prices — per item, per quality tier (0 = that tier is not bought)
- Blacklist — exclude any item ID entirely (handy for items from other mods)
- General — pricing mode, wine tiers, level appraisal, vinegar bulk mode
NeoForge does not allow editing a server config from the client on a multiplayer server. The commands below exist so server owners don't have to dig through server files.
🎮 Commands
Requires OP (permission level 2). Item IDs need no quotes — use the full ID or just the short name.
/wmc mode [flat|quality] view or switch the pricing mode
/wmc price <item> <quality 1-6> <price> set a tier price (0 = not bought)
/wmc enable|disable <item> toggle whether an item is bought
/wmc sell|buy <cocktail> <true|false> set cocktail trade direction
/wmc blacklist add|remove|list manage the blacklist
/wmc refresh [radius] rebuild the trade table and refresh nearby merchants
/wmc reload re-read the config into memory
/wmc info show a config summary
Run /wmc refresh once after changing prices or toggles — it applies instantly, no restart needed.
Example:
/wmc price kaleidoscope_tavern:wine 3 5
/wmc mode flat
/wmc refresh
🔧 Requirements
- Minecraft: 1.21.1 — NeoForge
- Required: Kaleidoscope Tavern
- Optional: Kaleidoscope World Liquor (26 more wines), Kaleidoscope Cookery
⚠️ Client and server must both install this mod. It registers a block, an item, a villager profession and a data component. A client without the mod cannot join (you'll see "server sent a registry containing unknown keys").
