Karts: drivable racing karts for Minecraft (Fabric)

Karts is a Fabric mod that adds drivable racing karts to Minecraft. Drift, chain mini-turbos, use the slipstream, switch on your headlights, and build and tune your kart at the Workshop Lift. Nine karts, from a wooden starter to a lava-proof Netherite kart, a gliding End kart and a submarine.

Heads up: Karts is a new mod and it's getting updates almost every day, so expect changes, new features and the odd bug. Feedback is very welcome: tell me what you like, what feels off, what you'd add. Every opinion helps. Thanks for trying it out!

The karts

Karts Mod Minecraft

  • Wooden: cheap starter built from oak planks and logs. Slow and fragile, but turns well.
  • Standard: iron-tier and balanced.
  • Golden: accelerates and drifts best. Piglins won't attack you.
  • Off-road: heavy, climbs 1.5-block steps and ignores sand, gravel, snow and mud.
  • Forklift: the Standard Kart's performance with Netherite weight. Picks up and carries other karts.
  • Diamond: the fastest base kart, with a 3-level mini-turbo.
  • Netherite: an upgrade of the Diamond Kart. Fireproof, and lava is solid ground for it.
  • End: an upgrade of the Diamond Kart with elytra. It glides on long jumps and flies freely in the End.
  • Submarine: moves in 3D underwater. The driver breathes and sees in the dark.

Workshop Lift: build, tune and paint your kart

Workshop Lift in Karts mod: build karts, fit tyres and engines, paint and repair

Every kart except the Wooden one is built at the Workshop Lift. Drive in slowly (or stop next to it) and the kart is pulled to the center and lifted. Right-click the lift to open the workshop and see your kart while you work on it.

  • Build karts right on the lift. Netherite and End karts are built as upgrades of a Diamond Kart.
  • Fit tyres: 4 matching wheels in one click. Your old ones come back to you.
  • Engine upgrades: Blaze engines (better acceleration) and Netherite engines (higher top speed), crafted at the Engine Support.
  • Paint the Standard, Off-road, Forklift and Submarine karts. The others use the texture of their material.
  • Repair with the kart's own material. Damage is kept when you pick a kart up.

Wheels and engines can also be placed in the world as blocks with 3D models.

Driving

Turbo Karts Minecraft

  • Drift and mini-turbo: hold Space while turning. The drift holds a gentle curve by itself. Release at the blue sparks for a boost. Diamond, Netherite and End karts keep charging for longer boosts.
  • Launch control: while stopped, hold W and press Space to rev. Release Space for a launch. Release when flames come out of the exhaust for a perfect start, but wait too long and the engine stalls.
  • Air trick: press Space in the air after a jump, and land on solid ground for a turbo.
  • Slipstream: drive close behind another moving kart (up to 8 blocks) and fill the bar for a turbo.
  • Headlights: press H. They really light up what's ahead of you.
  • Camera: the view turns with the kart. In third person (F5) a chase camera follows it. Hold R to look behind.
  • On-screen display: speed, wheels, drift charge, turbo and launch control.
  • Collisions: karts bounce off each other based on weight and speed, and push mobs and players on foot.
  • Sound: every kart has its own engine (3-cylinder, turbo 4, race, V8, electric), plus start-up, exhaust backfire, turbo chime and crashes.

Tyres

  • Road tyres (the normal ones): full grip on asphalt, 70% speed on loose dirt and snow. Easier to drift.
  • Off-road tyres: 90% on asphalt, full speed on sand, gravel, snow and mud.
  • Studded tyres: 95% on asphalt, 85% on snow and full grip on ice. Craft a Kart Wheel with 4 iron nuggets.
