Description

Lobby Voice

Talk to your Minecraft friends from the title screen, no server needed.

Lobby Voice is an addon for Simple Voice Chat. It adds a voice chat button to the title screen, so you can hang out in a voice group with your friends before you even pick a world or server, just like a party chat.

Nothing to set up: install the mod, click the microphone, and share a code. No port forwarding, no server to run.

📖 Step-by-step guide with screenshots

Features

🎙️ Voice groups on the title screen

  • Click the microphone in the top-left corner of the title screen.
  • Create Group gives you a 6-character code, like K7P2QX. Send it to your friends and they join with Join with Code.
  • Push-to-talk (default V) or voice activation.
  • The screens look and feel exactly like Simple Voice Chat's menus: same panels, icons and talking indicators.
  • Full settings: volume, microphone gain, mic test, voice activation level, and Select Microphone / Select Speaker.

🌍 Public groups

  • Switch your group to Public and anyone can find it and join, right from the title screen.
  • See every public group live on the Lobby Voice website.
  • Private groups (the default) can only be joined with the code or an invite.

👥 Built on the Minecraft friends list

  • Invite friends straight from your Minecraft friends list (added in 26.2). They get a notification and can join with one click.
  • Friends who have Lobby Voice running right now are shown at the top with an Invite button.

🤝 Send friend requests from any server

  • /lobbyvoice players lists everyone on the server you're on, with an Add friend button.
  • /lobbyvoice friend <name> sends a request directly.
  • Requests go through the normal Minecraft friends system, so the other player doesn't need any mod to accept.

🔀 One menu with Simple Voice Chat

  • On a server, Simple Voice Chat's menu gets a Lobby Voice tab, and Lobby Voice gets a Server Voice tab, so both feel like one mod.
  • Settings like your microphone, speaker and push-to-talk key are shared between the two.

🔒 Secure login

  • Every player is verified with Mojang, the same way an online-mode server does, so nobody can pretend to be you.

How it works

On the title screen there's no game server to carry your voice, so Lobby Voice connects to a small relay that runs for free in the cloud. It's built in, so it just works.

  • Voice travels over a secure WebSocket (wss://), so it works through firewalls and school or work networks.
  • When you join a world or server, lobby voice pauses automatically so it doesn't clash with Simple Voice Chat in-game. You can keep it running from the settings if you like.
  • Want your own relay? You can change the relay address in Settings.

Requirements

Lobby Voice is client-side only. Everyone in a group needs version 1.2.0 or newer.

Notes

  • Lobby Voice is an unofficial addon and isn't affiliated with Simple Voice Chat or Mojang.
  • The free relay has a daily usage limit. If it's reached, lobby voice pauses until the next day (UTC). In-game Simple Voice Chat is never affected.
  • Join the Discord for help and updates.
