Local Weather

Take Control of the Weather — One Block at a Time.

Local Weather is a Minecraft Forge mod that gives players the ability to control weather conditions in specific areas of their world without changing the weather everywhere else.

Whether you want to protect your base from thunderstorms, create a permanently rainy fishing area, or summon lightning for your next project, Local Weather gives you precise control using three dedicated weather-control blocks.

No commands. No complicated machines. Just place a block, configure its coverage, and let it handle the weather.

🌦️ Features

  • Localized Weather Control — Change the weather within a selected area without affecting the rest of the world.
  • Three Unique Weather Blocks — Prevent rain, create rain, or summon thunderstorms.
  • Customizable Coverage — Choose between nine different zone sizes.
  • Square or Circular Zones — Adapt the coverage area to your builds.
  • Visual Zone Preview — See the affected area before finalizing your setup.
  • Real Weather Mechanics — Weather zones interact with Minecraft mechanics, including fishing, fire, lightning, mobs, and cauldrons.
  • Optional Fuel System — Power your weather blocks using burnable items, lava, or Forge Energy.
  • Automation Support — Compatible with pipes and energy cables from popular technology mods.
  • Configurable Settings — Customize fuel consumption, maximum zone size, lightning behavior, and more.

🧱 Weather Control Blocks

☀️ Rain Shield — Keep Your Base Dry

The Rain Shield creates a protected zone where rain and lightning cannot occur, regardless of the weather outside.

Even during a full thunderstorm, the area protected by the Rain Shield remains dry and free from lightning strikes.

Features:

  • Prevents rain within its configured zone.
  • Blocks lightning strikes inside the protected area.
  • Protects structures from lightning-related fires.
  • Works during normal rain and thunderstorms.
  • Supports adjustable zone sizes and shapes.

Perfect for:

  • Protecting wooden builds and villages.
  • Keeping outdoor bases dry.
  • Creating permanently clear areas.
  • Protecting sensitive structures from lightning.

🌧️ Rain Maker — Rain Whenever You Need It

The Rain Maker creates constant rainfall within its configured area, even when the rest of the world has clear skies.

It can produce rain in normally dry environments, including deserts.

Unlike visual-only weather effects, the Rain Maker creates weather conditions that interact with Minecraft's gameplay mechanics.

Features:

  • Produces continuous rainfall within its zone.
  • Works independently of global weather conditions.
  • Functions in normally dry biomes.
  • Supports fishing-related rain benefits.
  • Can fill cauldrons with rainwater.
  • Extinguishes exposed fires.
  • Supports customizable coverage.

Perfect for:

  • Fishing stations.
  • Automated cauldron setups.
  • Rain-themed builds.
  • Atmospheric gardens and structures.
  • Technical projects requiring rain.

⚡ Storm Block — Unleash the Thunder

The Storm Block creates a permanent thunderstorm within its configured area.

Unlike the Rain Maker, this block generates storm conditions with actual lightning strikes, making it useful for both creative builds and technical gameplay.

Features:

  • Creates continuous thunderstorm conditions.
  • Generates real lightning strikes within its zone.
  • Works independently of global weather.
  • Allows lightning behavior to be customized through configuration.
  • Supports adjustable coverage size and shape.

Perfect for:

  • Charged creeper setups.
  • Lightning-based contraptions.
  • Dark and atmospheric builds.
  • Storm-themed structures.
  • Advanced technical Minecraft projects.

⚙️ How to Use

Getting started with Local Weather is straightforward.

Step 1 — Place a Weather Block

Craft and place a Rain Shield, Rain Maker, or Storm Block in your world.

Step 2 — Open the Configuration Menu

Right-click the block to open its configuration interface.

Step 3 — Configure Your Weather Zone

Customize the area controlled by your weather block.

Available zone sizes:

  • 1×1
  • 3×3
  • 5×5
  • 7×7
  • 9×9
  • 11×11
  • 15×15
  • 19×19
  • 21×21

Click the size control to cycle through the available options.

Available zone shapes:

  • Square — Ideal for bases, farms, and rectangular structures.
  • Circle — Ideal for natural-looking coverage and decorative builds.

Step 4 — Preview Your Coverage

Use the built-in preview feature to display an outline of the affected area.

This makes it easy to position your blocks and check their coverage.

Step 5 — Enjoy Localized Weather

Your selected weather conditions will now affect the configured zone without changing the weather across the rest of the world.

🌍 Real Weather, Real Minecraft Mechanics

Local Weather does more than display weather particles.

Within each configured zone, Minecraft treats the area as experiencing the corresponding weather conditions.

Depending on the weather block, this can affect:

  • Fishing behavior and rain-related bonuses.
  • Cauldron filling.
  • Fire extinguishing.
  • Lightning strikes.
  • Mob interactions with weather.
  • Other weather-dependent gameplay mechanics.

The result is a weather-control system that integrates with Minecraft gameplay rather than simply changing how the sky looks.

🔄 Overlapping Weather Zones

Multiple weather blocks can operate in the same world.

If two or more weather zones overlap, Local Weather uses a priority system to determine which effect applies.

Weather Priority (Highest to Lowest):

  1. Rain Shield — Clear weather takes priority.
  2. Storm Block — Thunderstorms take priority over normal rain.
  3. Rain Maker — Rain applies when no higher-priority effect is active.

This allows you to combine weather zones in creative ways.

Example: Create a large rainy area using a Rain Maker, then place a Rain Shield to keep a smaller base dry within that area.

🔋 Optional Fuel & Energy System

By default, weather blocks operate without consuming fuel.

For players who prefer a more balanced or technical experience, Local Weather includes an optional fuel system.

Enable it by setting:

fuelMode = true

Once enabled, weather blocks require a valid power source to operate.

Supported Fuel Types

Burnable Items

  • Coal
  • Charcoal
  • Wood
  • Other supported burnable items

Liquid Fuel

  • Lava supplied through buckets or compatible pipes

Forge Energy

  • FE/RF supplied through compatible energy cables

Automation Compatibility

The fuel system supports integration with popular Minecraft technology mods, including:

  • Mekanism
  • Thermal
  • Create
  • Pipez

This allows weather-control setups to be incorporated into automated bases and technical modpacks.

Fuel Consumption

Larger weather zones can consume fuel faster than smaller zones, adding an optional resource-management element to your setup.

Fuel mode is disabled by default and can be customized through the mod configuration.

🛠️ Configuration Options

Local Weather includes configuration settings so players and modpack creators can customize how the mod behaves.

Available options include:

  • Enable or disable fuel mode.
  • Select accepted fuel types.
  • Configure the maximum permitted weather-zone size.
  • Enable or disable lightning generated by Storm Blocks.
  • Adjust the frequency of storm lightning strikes.
  • Enable or disable cauldron filling from Rain Makers.

Whether you want convenient weather control or a fuel-powered automation system, Local Weather can be configured to fit your playstyle.
