No reviews yet
Moose Gen is an overworld biome overhaul made by a Moose, focused on playability with a touch of whimsy.
General improvements to world generation, such as bug fixes, aesthetic overhauls, or misc additions.
Data Packs were introduced to vanilla Minecraft in version 1.13 and allow the server to modify data about the game, or run commands. Data Packs are compatible with all mod loaders.
Fabric is a mod loader for versions 1.14+ of Minecraft, particularly popular for client side and optimization mods.

The latest update marks the end of support for the current iteration of MooseGen. I have learned a ton about world-gen through developing this pack and am working on a significant overhaul to coincide with the Fall Drop. This WILL NOT be compatible with worlds made in the current version of the pack. I apologize for any struggles this may cause, but I want to use all the knowledge I have gained in developing this version to completely overhaul the pack improving both its aesthetics and performance, as well as adding a lot of new features. This upcoming overhaul will be made with the goal of ensuring forward-compatibility to future versions so that it can support long-term worlds. Again I apologize for any struggles from this and am happy to answer questions and give development updates in the Discord!
You're Telling Me a Moose Gen'ed this World?
Yes! A Cosmic Moose to be exact! I set out to make this datapack to have a more immersive and gameplay friendly world-gen datapack that doesn't veer too far from Vanilla. Currently most non-ocean biomes have been updated to at least some extent with forests having the most extensive work done. More updates are planned and you can read down below to see what I have planned at this point. If you enjoy my packs, please join the discord server and give feedback so I can improve them! One feature of this pack is a double-edged sword, the surface of the overworld is much smoother, the tradeoff for this is fewer caves, and very few cave entrances on the surface. This has the benefit of much smoother terrain and easier spawn-proofing underground, but finding resources can be a bit more difficult than vanilla.
Key Features
- Beautiful sky, fog, grass, and water colors for every overworld biome
- Trees are generally taller, allowing you to walk through the forest without
tangling your antlerssmacking your face on the leaves. - More varied ground cover. No more walking through inexplicably grassy forests, now forests have podzol ground cover mixed in so that it feels more like a real-world forest.
- More boulders in varied sizes and materials, some may even have ore deposits!
- Colorful treescapes, many biomes have multiple leaf colors giving some autumnal variety to the forests of your world.
- Overhauled dark forest biome: themed after the California Redwoods, the new dark forest is full of whimsy and wonder, you may even see the legendary wild sniffer splooting in the moss.
- Pale Garden is overhauled into the Scorched Forest, offering a more hostile environment to tackle. If you get lucky enough at night to survive the Creaking you may spot a skeletal horse galloping through the forest.
- If the wooded badlands felt like a depressing mass of oak trees to you, worry no more, the tree coverage of this biome has been re-themed to be reminiscent of Bryce Canyon national park.
- Minecraft's deserts have long been a strange mishmash of the sahara and western hemisphere deserts. Mooseblocks overhauls the deserts to be more similar to the deserts of the American Southwest.
- The swamps that have gone basically untouched for more than a decade have gotten a bit of a facelift.
- Changes to the sniffer loot table, adding some lush foliage to the pool, as well as the much requested addition of the golden dandelion!
- Fully updated to be compatible with the Chaos Cubed Drop!
- Mountain and Windswept biomes now have a small chance of naturally spawning breezes. Watch your step!
