Description
MoreIndustry: Petrol -- MoreIndustry : Workshop is needed
Find the oil, pump it, refine it, and turn it into plastic.
Petrol is a mod about a chain you can follow with your eyes. A pumpjack nodding over a field, a
distillation column glowing in the dark, pipes running from one machine to the next, and at the end
of it all a handful of plastic pellets. Every machine is a full 3D model that moves, with its own
panel telling you what it is doing — or what it is waiting for.
🛢️ Finding oil
Oil is under the ground, and the ground tells you. A dark, glistening patch of earth on the
surface means a field below — roughly one chunk in ninety carries one, so a good walk between
fields. Deserts, badlands, swamps and oceans hold more than the rest.
Every field is worth between 60 and 400 buckets of crude. When it runs dry, the seep on the
surface dries with it, and you move on.
⛏️ The chain
Set the pumpjack over a field and watch the beam nod. Crude flows into the distillation
column, which splits it into diesel, naphtha and gasoline. Naphtha and water go into the steam
cracker, which runs four heat stages and returns an olefin mix. The fractionation column
separates that into ethylene and propylene.
From there the chain turns solid. The polymerisation reactor turns propylene into
polypropylene pellets, which drop into a bin — catch them by hand or with a hopper. The
extruder turns ethylene into polyethylene profiles. Then the two molders shape them:
injection molding for pellets, blow molding for profiles.
You don't need everything at once. Each cut is useful on its own, and each panel has a purge
button for the ones you don't want: off, purge the excess above 85%, or purge everything.
🔩 Around the machines
- Pipes carry the fluids: plain, windowed so you can see what runs inside, and hazard-striped.
- Fuel tanks hold 25 buckets each, one fluid at a time, with a window you read from across the
room. **Granule tanks** do the same for pellets.
- Plastic blocks — polypropylene and polyethylene — for building, and they come back apart into
their pieces.
- Every machine runs on power and says so on its screen. A machine never refuses without telling
you why.
🗺️ Where to find things
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Oil field | Under a chunk, one in ninety; more in deserts, badlands, swamps and oceans |
| Seeping earth | On the surface, right above a field |
| Crude oil | The pumpjack, over a field |
| Diesel, naphtha, gasoline | The distillation column, from crude |
| Olefin mix | The steam cracker, from naphtha and water |
| Ethylene, propylene | The fractionation column, from the olefin mix |
| Polypropylene pellets | The polymerisation reactor, from propylene |
| Polyethylene profiles | The extruder, from ethylene |
| Polypropylene parts | The injection molder, from pellets |
| Polyethylene parts | The blow molder, from profiles |
| Machines and pipes | The Workshop's workbench, hammer in the tool slot |
🔗 Compatibility
- Requires MoreIndustry: Workshop. Its workbench builds these machines, and its generators power
them.
- Pellets and profiles carry the common `c:plastics` tag, so any mod that asks for plastic finds
them — the Workshop's sheathed cable, for one.
- Machines speak Forge Energy (FE), and their tanks and pipes speak the usual fluid API: other
mods' pipes, tanks and generators plug straight in.
