MoreIndustry: Workshop
Build your workshop with your own hands, then let the machines take over.
Workshop is a mod about making things. Not pressing a button in a menu: holding an ingot in one hand and a hammer in the other, cranking a rolling mill before you have power, pouring molten iron into a mould, and watching a 5-axis mill carve an engine block out of solid steel. Every machine is a full 3D model that moves, and every screen tells you what it is doing — or what it is waiting for.
---
🔨 Where it all starts: the hammer
The rolling mill makes plates… and the rolling mill is made of plates. So how do you begin?
With the Blacksmith's Hammer. Hold an ingot in your off-hand, the hammer in your main hand, and strike. Five blows, five clangs, and you have an iron, gold or copper plate. Strike a plate of iron or steel and you get a gear. The hammer lasts for 128 plates, and you will feel every one of them. That is the point: by the time you finish your first machine, you will know exactly why you wanted it.
The Hacksaw works the same way: an anvil in your off-hand, eight strokes of the saw, and it splits into the four machine feet every machine stands on.
🪚 The Workbench
A long 5×5 workbench, your first real piece of furniture. Everything you can craft on a vanilla crafting table works here, plus the big recipes that don't fit in a 3×3: machines, electric motors, control panels, touch screens. Some recipes want a tool in the dedicated slot, like the hammer.
Machines are built from real parts, in steps: plates and rods become gears, copper coils, electric motors, reducers; glass, gold and redstone become an electrical box, then a control panel, then a touch screen for the CNC machines. Each part is a recognisable object you will reuse again and again.
⚙️ The Rolling Mill
Your first machine, and your first relief. Feed it ingots, it spits out plates or rods, one after another, for iron, gold, copper, steel and netherite.
- It comes without rollers. Craft a set and mount it: flat rollers for plates, grooved rollers for rods. A set lasts about a thousand passes; the grooved ones wear out faster.
- No power yet? Mount the crank on the end of the roller and turn it by hand. Once you have electricity, the mill runs by itself.
🔥 The Treated-Iron Forge — making steel
Steel is where the workshop grows up. The forge melts iron, burns coal into it and hardens it in a quench tank:
- Iron goes in and melts into the crucible (an ingot is 90 mB; nuggets and blocks work too).
- Each pour drinks 250 mB of lava and 4 coal, and powers the machine at 40 FE/t.
- The quench tank needs one bucket of water, once. Water is never used up.
- The forge goes through pouring → cooling → quenching, and you can watch the metal glow while it works. It even lights up the room while the iron is hot.
The mould decides what comes out. Place a mould on the hatch: the ingot mould gives four steel ingots per pour, and the small, medium and large block moulds cast raw blocks, ready to be machined. Want to switch metals? Drain the crucible from the screen and you get your molten metal back. Gold, copper and netherite raw blocks can be cast too.
🤖 The 5-Axis Mill — engine parts
A gantry, two wrist joints, a rotating table and a cutting head that actually moves around the part. Pick a part from the catalogue, put the right steel block on the table, and watch it being carved pass by pass.
The part picks its raw block, not you: a piston fits in a small block, an engine block needs a large one. If the block is wrong, the screen says WRONG BLOCK.
The catalogue: pistons (small, medium, large, reinforced), connecting rods, crankshafts (three sizes), injectors (standard and performance), the steel gear, and seven engine blocks, from the little 50 cc to the 250, the 450 performance, the 600 and 1100 twins, the 600 inline-four and the 1200 boxer.
🛠️ The other machines
- CNC Mill: precision parts that neither the hammer nor the rolling mill can make, like the dial base that goes into dials and pressure gauges, or the webs of the industrial crankshaft.
- Belt Sander: the only machine that fits in a single block. It turns wood, iron, copper and redstone into small and large cylinders, in every vanilla wood. Cylinders are placeable blocks that take the axis of the face you aim at, so you can build railings, rollers, balusters and pipes out of them. The sandpaper wears out after 10 pieces.
- Compressor and Pneumatic Drill: the compressor fills a tank of air. Right-click it with the drill to plug in the hose, which stretches up to 10 blocks and snaps beyond that. The drill carries no air of its own; it pulls from the tank.
- Storage Tank: 32 buckets of any fluid, including other mods' fluids. You can read its level from across the room.
Every machine shows its state on its own screen: READY, NO POWER, DOOR OPEN, NO STEEL, OUTPUT FULL, NO MOULD… A machine never refuses without telling you why.

⚡ Electricity
The Coal Generator
The workshop runs on coal, and only coal. No solar panels, no wind turbines — other mods already do that. Load it with coal, charcoal or coal blocks (it stores 256). Each piece burns for 80 seconds at 40 FE/t. It needs water (a bucket or a pipe), otherwise the fire won't start. Open it and you will see the grate tilt, the coal glow and the crankshaft spin.
You craft it from bricks, a roof, a bucket, an electrical box and a grate, around an industrial crankshaft whose webs are milled one by one.
Batteries
- Redstone Battery: your very first power source, before any sheet metal. It comes out of the workbench full (25,000 FE) and never recharges: it is a battery, not a reserve. If you break it half-empty, it drops half-empty, so there is no infinite-power trick.
- Steel Battery: a real buffer of 400,000 FE. The generator fills it, and it feeds your machines when the fire goes out.
Cables, hung by hand
Cables are hung like leads: right-click a first block, then a second one, up to 16 blocks away. To go further, right-click an ordinary block and a junction box appears there. Sneak-click a block to unhook its cables.
- Bare copper cable: cheap, but rain cuts it. You will see it spark, and power stops until the rain stops.
- Sheathed cable: covered in plastic, weatherproof.
- Cable spools (small 16, large 64, in every wood) store your cable and look great in a workshop corner.
Three machines per source
Each generator or battery powers at most 3 machines, the closest ones along the cables. A fourth machine at the end of the line gets nothing. Growing your workshop means investing in power, not just pulling more cable.
When power runs short, machines share it fairly and slow down together. A machine that stops for lack of power waits until it has some reserve before it starts again. No flickering, no stutter.
---
🧭 A typical progression
1. Hammer → Workbench → your first plates, struck by hand.
2. Machine feet (hacksaw on an anvil) → rolling mill, turned with the crank.
3. Redstone battery → your first machines under power.
4. Coal generator + cables → a real workshop.
5. Forge → steel → steel battery, steel gears, steel motor.
6. 5-axis mill → engine blocks, pistons, crankshafts.
🔗 Compatibility
- Plates, rods, gears and steel ingots carry the common `c:` tags** (`c:plates/iron`, `c:rods/steel`, `c:ingots/steel`…), so other mods that use those tags recognise them.
- Machines speak Forge Energy (FE). Any FE generator or cable from another mod can power them.
- Custom recipe types (`laminage`, `usinage`, `poncage`, `fraisage`, `assemblage`…): modpacks and add-ons can add their own recipes with a datapack.
- Workshop is built to supply other mods with their parts, starting with the **MoreTransport** vehicles. Every mod stays playable on its own.
