What is Proper Copper?
This controversial mod implements basic changes to Copper & Iron which aim to put those ores on the same level, as equals.
The mod does so by leaning on Muddy's bizarre philosophy presented in his video
which states that both ores should be used for utility purposes (New Functionality or Quality of Life)
So what makes Copper "Proper" ?
The mod attempts to separate the two ores by saying that:
Iron:
- Is used for manual activities
- Dependent on the player's consistent involvement in order to carry out its function
Copper:
- Is used for passive activities
- Does not rely on the player to carry in order to carry out its function
- May need an initial set up at first
Best example of this in game would be an Anvil vs Lightning Rod.
Sounds interesting... What to expect from the mod?
Here is a list of all of the changes this mod has to offer, as of right now they are mostly entirely just changes, but actual new content is planned for this mod as well!
Iron:
- Is now used to craft the Spyglass
- Is now used to craft the Brush
Copper:
- Is now used to craft armor (instead of Iron)
- Is now used to craft Hoppers
- Is now used to craft the Compass
- Is now used to create Village Golems (previously known as Iron Golems)
Even when the changes are as simple as recipe changes, hopefully you will feel the impact and difference in early gameplay loop or at least get a different experience than we're used to.
Regardless, I would like to add some new content with the mod too, so...
What's planned?
- As of right now, the expansion to Village Golems teased in the video is not yet implemented. But the goal is to be able to empower the golem using Iron which will create an interesting gameplay loop that reflects on both Iron & Copper. Additionally as of version 1.0.0 the Village Golems still can be interacted with Iron for healing.
- I want to retexture Copper Armor to be more interesting, I don't like Vanilla's armor textures and I'd like to give it something a bit more unique to make this mod stand out. (Similarly to how Village Golems aren't just orange Iron Golems)
- New content, I am currently working on Galvanic Arrows, a Copper-made arrow which can only be used via Crossbows. Its design also reflects nicely on the way that Copper & Iron operate in the mod, as well as their interactions with each other.
- 1.21, I already have some creative solutions to some of the content introduced in the recent Snapshots and I very much would like to touch on this mod during this version.
