About
Description

Nookworks is a vanilla-style decoration and tech mod for NeoForge. String café lights, banners and lanterns on Thin Rope and Thin Chain, print posters and labels on a Printing Press, furnish your rooms and cook in a working kitchen, and keep it all in Storage Barrels. Then build a workshop: generators, Motors turning rows of machines by belts, pumps and pipes, and a chemistry line to a metal past netherite. Tree felling and vein mining come with it. Around 300 blocks and items, each made to sit beside vanilla's.
NeoForge 26.3 (1.0.0 also for 26.2) · no other mods needed · JEI and Jade optional · English, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어, Español, Русский, Português (Brasil) · free to use in modpacks · Player guide · Source on GitHub
More in short videos: Nookworks feature tour on YouTube (Japanese voices, English subtitles).
New in 1.2: Rootbound, an axe enchantment - a tree you fell is planted back where it stood from the saplings you carry, four for a dark oak, and Biomes O' Plenty's and other mods' trees too; Benches in every wood, set side by side into one long bench (a Wrench keeps two apart), and poplar furniture; and a round of fixes. 1.1 brought books on desks and a Bookend, recycling, lanterns on Thin Rope and Spanish, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese.
Thin Rope and Thin Chain
Tie Thin Rope from post to post and it sags into place. Hang Filament Bulbs on it for café lights, or banners, bottles, flowers, lanterns and fish to dry in the sun; glow berries hung on it grow down as a cave vine. A lever at the post switches every light on its lines. Thin Chain does the same in iron, and both make drive belts between machines. A plain Rope lets down from the ceiling and can be climbed.

Posters, photos and labels
The Printing Press prints 69 posters, from 1x1 to 4x4 - something other than paintings - and labels for your chests and barrels. Take a Camera out, and it prints your own photos as posters too. A data pack, with a resource pack for the pictures, can add more designs.

Furniture and a kitchen
Chairs, desks that join into one long desk, stools, benches and Wall Shelves in every wood; sconces and oil lamps. Lanterns can be put out and lit again, and bottles stood on any block, up to four. Books lie on a desk in a pile or lean on a wall, and a Bookend stands them up in a row. In the kitchen: rice from the paddy, udon from the Noodle Maker, bread rising on a tray, karaage and tonkatsu from the Iron Pot under a Range Hood, boiled eggs and tamagoyaki, pickles from the Nukadoko. Campfires are set down unlit: light one with flint and steel.

Storage and sorting
Storage Barrels in five tiers, up to 135 slots of 1,024 stacks each, upgraded where they stand with everything kept. A Sort button on the barrels and on vanilla's chests, barrels, Ender Chests and shulker boxes. Item Sorters with gears keep a storage room in order, and Item Warps send items to your own receivers - nothing to pair.

Recycling
The Recycler shreds worn-out metal things - tools, armour, rails, buckets, anvils, Nookworks' own machines - and gives back half their metal as Scrap (gold as nuggets). The Compressor packs nine of anything into one, as the crafting grid would. Build with the scrap: Scrap Bales, Corrugated Sheets that rust as copper weathers - or painted ones that never do - and Patched Sheet Metal.
Tree felling, vein mining and tools
Break a log with an axe and the tree comes down - with Rootbound on the axe, its saplings go back in the ground; mine an ore and its vein follows (sneak for a single block). Hammers dig 3x3, the Magnet pulls drops in, the Building Wand spreads a block across a flat surface, up to 32 at a time. Each steps aside when FTB Ultimine or a mod doing the same is installed.

The workshop
Generators on coal, oil or biodiesel and a Diesel Generator for more, cables to a Crusher, a Sifter (gravel and soil give ore, seeds and more) and an Electric Furnace. One Motor turns a whole row of machines by Drive Wheels and belts of rope or chain. Pumps, pipes and tanks; brass from the Sealed Retort; a mercury line that ends in caustic soda, paper and Velarium, a metal past netherite, tempered red-hot in vegetable oil. Your experience drains into tanks as a liquid, runs green through pipes, and repairs tools in a Repair Box. All on Forge Energy, so other mods' cables connect.

One door to every dimension
- Dock-a-Daemon Door: one door to every dimension you have been to - pick where at a Destination Panel beside it, so a base in a pack of many mods is not walled with portals.
- The If: the overworld again from another seed - vanilla terrain, nothing else - for a fresh place to mine or build. Throw a die at its mirror six times to pick which world.
- Barter Terminal: a sealed room where piglins barter for your gold outside the Nether.

Around the village, and small odd things
- Trading Counter: stand a villager behind it and tick the trades you want - it trades by itself, payment in by hopper, goods out below, at the villager's own price.
- Dice that really roll, a Nested Timer for redstone, Mob Bottles that carry a villager with its trades, Dark Matter that brings night at noon, Lode Pearls to take you home, named lodestones, Fine Shears that spare a lead, and Squint: hold C and things far off come twice as near.
- From the Sifter: corn, onions, Sunflower Seeds, and the rare End Seed, which opens into a plant nobody can predict.

New in 1.1
- Books laid on a block or leant on a wall, and the Bookend, which stands them up in a row.
- Recycling: the Recycler, the Compressor, Scrap Bales, Corrugated Sheets and Patched Sheet Metal.
- Lanterns and glow berries on Thin Rope and Thin Chain, a lever at the post for the lights on its lines, and Filament Bulbs switched by hand.
- Egg dishes, campfires set down unlit, a wall post among the Supports' shapes.
- Español, Русский, Português (Brasil). The full list is in the file's changelog.
With other mods
- Shared materials go by common tags (brass, zinc, flour, salt, rice and more), so other mods' materials work in our recipes. Power is Forge Energy, and our liquids - all but mercury, which keeps to our own iron pipes - move through any mod's pipes and tanks.
- Tree felling, vein mining, the hammers' 3x3, the Magnet and the Building Wand stand down when a mod doing the same is installed; the list is in the config, for a pack to change. The scroll-and-drag inventory tweaks step aside for Mouse Tweaks, and the Sort button for Inventory Profiles Next, Inventory Sorter, Inventory Tweaks or Quark.
- Claims and spawn protection are respected (checked with Open Parties and Claims and Flan). Works with Sodium and Iris (on 26.3 from Sodium 0.9.3 and Iris 1.11.7).
- No world generation: Nookworks adds no ores, plants or structures to your world. Its materials come from play - sifting, machines, crafting and trades - so it is safe to add to a world already started.
FAQ
Can I use it in a modpack? Yes. It is MIT licensed - no need to ask.
Which versions? Minecraft 26.3 (NeoForge 26.3.0.76 or later) or 26.2 (NeoForge 26.2.0.88 or later), Java 25 - take the file for your version: 1.0.0 is the last for 26.2, and 1.1 and later are for 26.3. Needed on both the client and the server.
Fabric, Forge or older Minecraft? Not planned. Nookworks follows NeoForge to newer versions.
Where are the settings? Mods → Nookworks → Config, or config/nookworks-*.toml. Which parts of the mod a
world has is chosen when it is made: Create World → More → Nookworks Parts.
Tell us what you think
Nookworks has been played in survival, in singleplayer and with two players on a dedicated server, beside claim mods, JEI and Jade, and is checked by over 870 automated in-game tests. What helps most: what you built with it, where you got stuck, and what you would want next. Every comment is read, and fixes come in the next update.
About the mercury
The mod's mercury chemistry is simplified and partly invented for the game; it is not how real mercury is handled. Real mercury is toxic and has done grave harm to people and the environment, Minamata disease in Japan among it. If you ever deal with real mercury, follow the guidance of public authorities and experts.
How this mod was made
Nookworks is made with AI (Claude, by Anthropic) under the author's direction: the author decides what goes in, plays it and judges it; the AI writes the code, this page and most of the textures, drawn by scripts kept with the source. The poster pictures are AI-made too. Every picture here is a real in-game capture, most with the Complementary Reimagined shader pack; the night and indoor ones are brightened a little, nothing else is changed.
License
MIT. All of the mod's textures are its own; no vanilla images are included.
