Obscure Armor Stand Fix
Fixes Obscure Tooltips' 3D armor preview rendering broken geometry — a missing leg, a flat-shaded head, a corrupted base plate — when any resource pack replaces the armor stand's model through a CEM mod like Entity Model Features (EMF). The "Reimagined" pack is a known trigger.
The problem
Obscure Tooltips shows a small 3D armor stand in item tooltips, wearing whatever piece you're hovering. It renders this preview through the normal armor stand model.
CEM mods like EMF don't swap models per entity — they replace the shared model layer that every armor stand in the game draws from, permanently, for the whole session, the moment any loaded resource pack ships a custom model for it. That replacement model expects a properly spawned, ticked entity. Obscure Tooltips' preview is a throwaway armor stand that's never spawned into the world, so it doesn't meet that expectation — and the substituted model renders it with missing geometry and broken UVs. Real, in-world armor stands are unaffected; only the tooltip preview breaks.
The fix
This addon bakes plain vanilla armor stand geometry under its own, separate model-layer keys — keys no resource pack has ever targeted — and mixes into Obscure Tooltips' preview renderer to draw with that instead of the shared (and potentially replaced) one.
- Real, in-world armor stands: unchanged, still show whatever your resource packs give them.
- Obscure Tooltips' armor preview: always plain vanilla geometry, regardless of installed resource packs.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge
- Obscure Tooltips (hard dependency — this mod only patches its preview renderer)
Compatibility
Client-side only. Safe to use with or without a CEM mod (Entity Model Features, etc.) installed — it only changes what the tooltip preview specifically uses to render, nothing else.
