Description
OVCR World Chooser
Français plus bas.
OVCR World Chooser shows a full-screen menu the first time a player joins a world, so they can pick where their survival starts. It was made for OVCR, a NeoForge 1.21.1 survival modpack that offers two starting worlds: Ruined Cities (the Overworld, full of abandoned cities generated by The Lost Cities) and Wildlands (a separate dimension of untouched nature with no cities). The player picks one of two illustrated cards, confirms, and the modpack's server script sends them there.
What the player sees
- On first join, once the world has loaded, a full-screen menu opens over the blurred game scene.
- Two large illustrated cards side by side: Ruined Cities and Wildlands, each with a short description and three key points (for example "No cities, roads or rails" or "Filled chests in the buildings").
- The player clicks a card to select it, then clicks Confirm. Two steps, so nobody picks by accident.
- Esc asks "Choose later?". Choosing later closes the menu and the player stays in the Ruined Cities for now; the menu comes back at the next join, or with
/ovcrmonde. - After confirming, the menu fades out and the player is moved to the chosen world. It does not open again on later joins. In OVCR, players can still switch worlds later with a bed placed on crying obsidian.
Features
- Layout adapts to every window: cards side by side, stacked or compacted on small windows. Checked for GUI scales 1 to 4 and Auto, from 854×480 to ultra-wide screens.
- Keyboard support: ← → to choose, Tab to move between buttons, Enter to confirm, Esc for "Choose later?".
- Smooth animations based on the clock, with no fast flashing. Narrator support.
- English and French text.
- Safe while choosing: for a short time the player takes no damage and mobs cannot target them, so nobody dies while reading the menu. This protection lasts 3 minutes at most, is given once per connection, only near the world spawn, and ends at the first action (moving, attacking, breaking, using an item, changing dimension).
- The server never trusts the client: the client only sends which card was chosen (or "later"), never coordinates or a dimension. The server checks the player, that it really opened the menu for them, the value and a rate limit.
- Optional for players: someone without the mod can still join the server; the modpack then shows its own fallback (clickable chat buttons in OVCR).
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1 or newer, Java 21
- KubeJS (required: the mod reads the player's KubeJS persistent data)
- Install on the server and on the clients.
Who is this mod for
This mod is the menu only: it does not teleport anyone and does not add dimensions. The travel, the dimensions and the "has this player chosen?" flag belong to the modpack's server script. It works out of the box in OVCR. Another modpack can use it if its KubeJS server script follows the same contract:
- On join, if
persistentData.ovcrWorldChosenis false, the script runs/ovcrchooser login <player>. If the client has the mod, the menu opens andpersistentData.ovcrChooserSentis set (the script reads it, then clears it); otherwise the script shows its own fallback. - When the player confirms, the server runs
/ovcrmonde villes(Ruined Cities) or/ovcrmonde sauvages(Wildlands) as the player. The script registers that command, does the travel and setsovcrWorldChosen. - 10 ticks later the mod checks
ovcrWorldChosen. If it is still false (for example no safe ground was found), the menu opens again with a "No safe ground found" message.
Admin commands (operator level 2): /ovcrchooser info <player> (state of the player), /ovcrchooser open <player> (open the menu), /ovcrchooser login <player> (used by the script on join), /ovcrchooser open <player> erreur (test the error message).
FAQ
- Does it work without the OVCR modpack? Only with a server script that provides
/ovcrmondeand theovcrWorldChosenflag, as described above. On its own, it does nothing. - Does it change world generation? No. It adds no blocks, items, dimensions or world generation.
- Is anything saved in the world? No. The protection is kept in memory only; the choice itself is saved by the modpack's script.

OVCR World Chooser (français)
