Description
Pet Companions
Pet Companions turns vanilla mobs into companions. Each companion is the real mob with its normal movement and animations. It follows you, fights with you and gives you a bonus that gets stronger as it levels up.
How it works
- Every companion has its own unlock challenge, for example "Catch 32 fish" for the cat. Progress is shown in a separate advancement tab and in the companion menu. Much of what you did in your world before installing the mod counts too (kills, mined blocks, distances and other statistics).
- Open the companion menu with
K, click a companion to select it and summon it with the button (or double-click). Only one companion can be out at a time. - Companions level up alongside you: a summoned companion gets the same experience you pick up, and you keep yours. The "Give EXP" button lets you boost it with your own levels (every point gives 2 companion EXP). Companions go from level 1 to 100.
- At every 10th level the companion reaches a seal. To continue, you pay a tribute (items, and XP levels from the third seal on) and complete a few companion-specific tasks.
- Every companion has its own talents in vitality, strength and gift. Companions get stronger through training: defeating enemies, taking hits or using their bonus. You choose the training focus in the companion menu.
- Build an Expedition Camp (cartography table + compass + spyglass) and send companions you are not using on expeditions to ten areas – from forest, jungle and ocean to the Nether and the End – but only to places you have been yourself. Companions that fit an area have a better chance; expeditions can fail. Send two companions as a team, upgrade the camp for up to three expeditions at once and explore areas for better loot. They bring back experience, items, training and sometimes a Talent Shard, a rare Talent Crystal or a new look.
- Villages can have a Talent Seer. Right-click him with your companion out and pay an amethyst shard, and he tells you how talented your companion really is and how far its resistances are trained. Companions learn to withstand rain, fire, drowning and freezing from the damage they take. Talent Crystals are used on his Seer's Altar with your companion nearby.
- An unemployed villager near your Expedition Camp becomes an Expedition Leader. For emeralds he calls a companion back from its expedition at once – the price depends on the time left and how well the area is explored. He also keeps an area guide: for every area the exploration stage, the companions that fit and all loot by stage – each find shows up once you found it there. The camp shows the same loot with its "Loot" switch.
- Skins: companions with Minecraft variants (wolf, cat, parrot, rabbit, axolotl, chicken, mooshroom, panda, villager) get their real variants, all other companions get color tints. Choose its look with the "Appearance" button in the companion menu.
- Health and damage depend on the companion: a warden can take much more than a chicken.
- A defeated companion disappears and needs some time before you can summon it again. Stronger companions take longer, higher levels recover faster. Sleeping through the night lets all defeated companions recover at once.
- Companions heal slowly over time, also while dismissed. Companions don't take fall damage.
- Combat modes: Aggressive, Defend and Passive. Companions never attack players.
- Only hostile mobs attack companions. You can sleep with a monster companion nearby.
- Water companions (axolotl, dolphin, pufferfish, elder guardian) only appear in water; on land their bonus works as if at half level.
- You can give a companion its own name with a name tag.
- A companion symbol in the top right shows its mode, ability cooldown and recovery time. You can move it anywhere in the settings.
